and have picked up this xbow: http://wow.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?witem=34674;source=live My question is which is better for a BM hunter? The hunters in my guild say the xbow is but I am not sure. Tried both and I like the long bow the best, to me it seems to hit harder.

Go for the Xbow. being a BM hunter is all about how fast you are shooting. being able to steady/auto faster should help out alot. You may not see big numbers, but in the end you will outdps the person that does.
Although I'm not that much of an expert on weapon speeds, I think 3.00 is better for a BM hunter than 2.60. Correct me if I'm wrong though
Edit: Nevermind me, I'd have to correct myself, the 2.60 is definetely better.

A 2.6 speed weapon is great for a BM hunter, speciall if you dont have much haste. It will be better for the 1:1 shot rotation. 3.0 is too slow and the rotation will be messed up.
Also, very simple, if you look at the basic damage per second of these weapons, you'll notice the xbow gives you 2 more than the long bow.
Big numbers are for people that like to say "look I got a 1000k aimed shot crit! I'm good!"
