Warrior ProfessionsFollow

I am a new warrior and so far have selected Mining. I read some advice to add Skinning and sell everything and other advice to add Blacksmithing and use the ore I get to make stuff. I will solo most all the time and doubt if I have time to raid. So top level equpt will likely be out of my reach. What would you do in my situation...Blacksmithing or Skinning? Any other general advice around following a Profession for a warrior would be most helpful.

Thanks

I have tried this both ways. My first toon ever (a paladin) did the Mining/BS thing and as a result was always poor.

My current Warrior has mining and skinning, a banking alt and at level 38, about 200 gold. Also, my warrior has purchased a few pieces of armor from the AH.

What advice I have seen in the past indicates that you should maintain 2 gathering professions until you have your epic flying mount and then switch one out for a producing profession. I am definitely going to follow this track myself.

If you have gold plenty of gold to spare, Enchanting and jewelcrafting.

If you do not have gold to spare, subtitute one or both for a gathering profession (one could make a good arguement that enchanting can be a great gathering profession).

Enchanting gives you the ability to enchant rings and jewelcrafters can cut pretty good BoP gems.

There are some great weapons from Blacksmithing, but none that are of much use for tanking. And Armorsmithing just sucks.

Or, you can try Mining/Enchanting. Then you'll make a ton of money. Plus, Enchanting is a skill that you will actually use (i.e. enchant all your own gear to keep pimped out) vs Skinning that is only for making small bits of cash on the side. Then, you'll be able to buy all the gear you need, so don't worry about that. Most everything you're going to want is either BoE, or a drop.

The other prof you may want to consider is Engineering. You can make a sick helm with that profession. However, leveling it will take away all your mining profits, so prepare to farm.

Howcome noone mentioned Herb/alch! It's great for leveling. I lost track of how many times a healthpot saved me!

I could say the same thing about engineering bombs. AoE stun is awesome for buying some time or running away.

I would say either Blacksmithing or Engineering. With Blacksmithing you could either make your own weapons or armor. With Engineering you could make alot of money farming primals. It comes down to whether or not you have another 70 really. If you have another 70 already, I'd go Blacksmithing for gear, if you don't, then go Engineering for money. Hope this helped. :)

::EDIT::

Didn't see you had already made your decision. Mining/Skinning is a good way to go while leveling up. My advice was more from a 70 point of view. Good luck!

Yup, I concur ... I'm BS and Eng at level 70, I have my wicked edge in my main hand, my bloodmoon in the bank for when I feel like some 2handed action (and for when we can one hand 2 handers in the expansion ;-> .. still holding out for that), and I have my Furious Gizmatic Goggles ... one of the best fury plate items headpieces around (alteranatively, the tanatronic goggles are in the same league)

And yeah, at level 70, with an epic flyer .. gas cloud farming is the biggest money spinner I'm yet to come across.

wrt Levelling, skinning and mining is always a good bet .. although I levelled BS and Mining, and I must admit, I rarely struggled for gold, if ever (and yeah, I bought AH gear 2, sometimes 3 times a level).

Personally, I found that for leveling going pure gathering skill was the way to go. Skin and mine or skin and herb will get you the coin you'll need coming up, and will pay for your mounts and, when you're ready, for your profession change.

Once you hit 70, have your mount situation taken care of, and have some coin saved up, then flip to professions that allow you to make things you need. For me I choose engineering and alchemy.

You'll be burning through pots and elixers, so being able to make them (and having the mastery in elixers or potions) will keep your costs down, you'll also be able to make the alchemy stone trinkets, a number of which are valuable for tanking.

Engineering will give you access to some great tools. Repair bots will make you hero on many raids. Bombs and rocket launchers can really help with AOE situations. And the googles you can make are really, really good. You won't see better head gear items for quite a while.

Id say stay with mining! Good start! Now Blacksmithing SUCKS ***, however if you are going to endgame TANK, there are two or three items that are BOP and are really helpful. I think Engineering is the way to go personally for helpful stuff tanking, money, etc. Even JC isnt bad either. With a few exeptions Blacksmithing has little to offer, the epic weapons and armour that you can make have extremely expensive mats and are mostly BOP, so you cant even make money on them. I would say that Blacksmithing is not a complete lost cause the Felsteel set will help you get ready to take on kara, and the Red havoc boots are pretty. Do note leveling your BSing is very expensive and if you decide to do it, dont change your mind. WOLK could even the score for BS. maybe...

lol

cheers
