Quick question on PvP SwordFollow

Well my Warrior is almost level 70 now, and me and my friend (Paladin) are going to do 2v2 Arenas together. I figured I would get Season 3 gear (duh) with Season 2 shoulders (unless I'm good enough to get S3) and probably once S4 comes out I'll get the S3 sword which should be like an 1800 rating. My questions is: What sword should I get until I have a high enough rating for the S3 sword? Should I get S2 or is there another one? I'm really hoping there's another one, because I hate the way the S2 sword looks lol.

Also, I'm level 64 now, and leveling as Fury, my Pally friend has been leveling as Holy since level 10. Is it a good idea to respec Arms now and get a 2 hander to get used to playing as Arms?

I'll give you my opinion.

First and foremost, purchasing weapons via arena points is VERY pricey as far as your points go. I think the cost of a weapon (A 2-hander that is) will net you the cost of 1-2 additional pieces of armor that you could have purchased, and for a fresh 70, in greens and low end blues, that hurts pretty bad.

Of course, it may very well be worth it, as I'm sure you know, weapons make a HUGE difference for a warrior. You will have to prioritze what you think will benefit you the most up front.

For starters if you are going to be purchasing S3 armor *before* your weapon, I would highly recommend grinding some BG's and grab the S1 sword. That will at least hold you over for sometime until you can gather enough points for your S3 weapon.

If thats still not your thing, (if you are a blacksmith) you could craft one of the epic two handers that weaponsmiths can make - in this case the Lionheart Blade. Since you have your Holy Paladin buddy, you can probably grind the primals out for this weapon pretty fast, toss in a couple hundred gold for Primal nethers and you already have your second tier Lionheart Champion which will hold well until you can afford the S3 sword.

Of course, this is assuming you feel you MUST have a sword. You could always go Axes/Polearms (not highly recommended) or Maces (Recommended), and you may find those more visually pleasing.

It may have some benefit to it, however, Arms PvE, and Arms PvP can vary greatly in playstyle. When you are PvEing as arms, you are certainly not casting hamstrings, but you are slamming. As Arms PvP, its alot harder to get those slams in, and you are always spamming away hamstring.

So I want to say yes, just to get the general feel of the spec and play with the talents, but at the same time no. If PvP is your ultimate destination, theres only one way to get used to Arms PvP --> Spec Arms and go PvP. Beating on a "Marshfang ripper" with a two-hander wont prepare you to deal with that rogue that is frantically trying to get behind you and stab your spine out =)

Hope that helped

Thanks, that helped me a ton. I'll stick with my Fury spec then, since I'm pretty sure it's more efficient for killing PvE. I was thinking about going Maces and spending that thousands of gold to level blacksmithing and get a Stormherald...but I was very disappointed when I realized that the S3 shoulders required a very high rating and that Stormherald with S2 Shoulders and S3 armor looked pretty bad, yet somehow the S3 sword makes it all better. So I'm going Swords for 2v2, unless Maces are highly superior?

What about the Quantum Blade from Heroic Black Morass? Will that hold more over better than the S1 sword?

This part I'm not sure about. I remember once reading somewhere that either swords, or maces are superior for 2v2, and then the other is superior for 3v3 and 5v5. Hopefully someone more knowledgable like RPzip can answer that one for you. But I will tell you, generally I hear that people enjoy maces more for PvP.

This is a good sword and all, but I believe the S1 sword is better. It has more dps, and the stats are better itemized for PvP (The biggest factor being resilience and Stamina). The S1 sword also has higher top end damage, which will benefit your Mortal Strike attacks more so than Quantam Blade.

Going for this sword will also open up a whole new can of worms for you. Alot of people avoid Heroic BM like the plague. You need to have a very well geared tank and healer in order to get through this one. While it doesnt require any CC, many people will still scoff at taking you along to DPS as a Fury warrior, let alone Arms. If you decide to tank it yourself and go Prot, then its far beyond worth it just to try and get this sword, as gear up for tanking is difficult, and very time consuming - in which case you probably could have grinded out the honor for the S1 sword or made your T1 BS weapon.
In short, I would say not worth it unless you guys have some really well geared friends that can help you guys through this one, otherwise two fresh 70's will not be taken along to DPS, Tank, or Heal this one.

Generally I'd say Mace is useful in 2s and 3s. While Sword is better for 5s.

Mace is useful in 5s, but you generally don't get hit often, and swords provide on principle more burst dps and rage, to get through potentially more than 1 healers hps.

K, looks like I'm getting the S1 sword then until my rating is high enough for S3.

Is Maces in 2s worth spending all that gold leveling Blacksmithing up? I do have the mats pretty much for Thunder, Deep Thunder, and even Stormherald, but I would have to buy the mats to level Blacksmithing all the way up from 157. Is it worth it?

Quick bump, looking for a few more opinions/views. Just hit 70 and almost have all the honor I need to buy an S1 weapon. I just can't decide which one to get, I like the way Swords look slightly more than Maces, but Maces are better in 2v2. How much better are Maces in 2v2 though?

its the difference between "damn, he got that heal off!" and "whew, that was a close win, but we got it!"

(haven't read the whole entire thread so may repeat stuff.)
In 2v2's Maces are great the best, IMO either than the s3 mace, is Stormherald. Crapload of stam and an extra chance on hit stun.
Swords is better for things like 3v3, kind of a toss up with maces in 3v3, or 5v5 since you should have better CC's then a chance on hit stun, swords shines in the other brackets because of the burst dps, but hey you might like swords in 2v2.
