Tiny issue I'd like advice on;
For about the last two weeks, I've been in battlegrounds grinding honour with the intentions of picking up the S1 gavel. I respecced ret, picked up a blue 2hander and the blue pvp set, and set about losing Alterac Valley.
I've got the honour now, the issue is whether I should pick up that shiny purple right now or wait until S2 is available for purchase. Common sense says to wait for S2, thing is that Wrath is looming on the horizon, and I'm only a casual player; I'd like to tank Kara or at least a heroic as soon as possible.
Does anyone have any clue on when S4 is coming out, what price the S2 weapons will be when it does come out, or if the difference between the S1 and S2 gavel is even worth the worry?

You do not need the Gavel to tank Kara. Go run HMgT (I think you need heroic) for the mace there, it even has a blue socket!
If you don't have a gear for a heroic, odds are you can not do Kara, you can buy a crystal forged sword, or get the CB from the Keepers of time.
There will be 2 weeks notice given before Season 4 starts, so until we hear from Blizzard it will ALWAYS be at LEAST two weeks.

True enough about not needing the gavel. However, heroic MgT is supposed to be one of the hardest heroics - tougher than Karazhan - so you don't need to go down that route if you don't want to.
Either the Crystalforged Sword or the Continuum Blade are commonly used by tankadins for Karazhan.
EDIT: reading further, these are the swords recommended by Lord Justdistaint but it's always useful to have the items linked.

Is the rest of your gear up good enough? Are you approaching the 75k honor cap?
If the answer's yes to either of those questions, I'd get it. If not, I'd wait.

To be perfectly honest I see Paladin tanks using Crystalforged Sword right up to 25man T5 raids, the extra shield block is always useful. Only at T5-level gearing does the extra mitigation become unnecessary.

Get the Gavel. Just get it. It is better than the Crystalforged Sword or Continuum Blade. Since you have the honor, just go get it. WotLK is still a ways out. By the time it is released, you may have found something better while raiding.

Blizz will say 2 weeks before S4 release that it will be released. They are good on that. Since it hasn't been said you have 3 weeks minimum till it comes out, that is minimum it could be 4,5,6 weeks for all we know.

If you wait, then it will be 8-12 weeks.
If you get it now, then it will be 2-3 weeks.
So please get it now so that I can save my honor for the S4 mace :)

i'd wait. its gotta be comin fairly soon. i would say like a month. in the meantime the tanking blues are sufficient.
