Weapon Options when turning 70Follow

#1 May 25 2008 at 11:37 AM Rating: Decent
So I'm 69 and about to finally get to 70 and I was wondering what you guys think the best weapon option is. I was figuring on getting one of the pvp weapons (either the staff, but probably the sword) since they have the highest +spell damage. Is that the best way to go or should I be looking somewhere else? I just want to get ready for heroics and raiding asap.

Get whichever you can get that has the best stats for you, easy as that.

Unlike melee classes, our weapon TYPES don't matter as long as we get the maximum possible stats from the weapon(s). You can use a staff or a dagger/sword with an offhand item.

Buy the Bringer of Death from the AH:

The Bringer of Death
Binds when equipped
Two-Hand Staff
+32 Stamina
+31 Intellect
Equip: Improves spell critical strike rating by 42 (1.9% @ L70).
Equip: Increases damage and healing done by magical spells and effects by up to 121.

Until you run Shadow Lab enough times to get the sword from Murmur:

Greatsword of Horrid Dreams
+15 Stamina
+14 Intellect
Equip: Improves spell hit rating by 14 (1.11% @ L70).
Equip: Increases damage and healing done by magical spells and effects by up to 130.

Which you can pair up with the off hand from last boss in Arcatraz:

Lamp of Peaceful Radiance
Held In Off-hand
+13 Stamina
+14 Intellect
Equip: Improves spell hit rating by 12 (0.95% @ L70).
Equip: Improves spell critical strike rating by 13 (0.59% @ L70).
Equip: Increases damage and healing done by magical spells and effects by up to 21.

I think you'd be best suited to doing PvP enough to get the Gladiator's War Staff...

# Binds when picked up
# Staff
# Two-Hand
# Speed 3.00
# 134 - 278 Damage
# (68.7 damage per second)
# +35 Intellect
+48 Stamina
# Durability 120 / 120
# Requires Level 70
# Equip: Improves resilience rating by 25.
Equip: Improves spell critical strike rating by 36.
Equip: Improves spell hit rating by 21.
Equip: Increases damage and healing done by magical spells and effects by up to 199.

CCompare that to some of the gear listed above, and it really is a no brainer. 27K honor and 40 AV marks makes it yours, but it is worth it. Or, you could pvp for the honor and marks and just hold it to whenever they release it's S2 counterpart, which should be any week now.

It's pretty much, barring the other Arena staves, the best staff you can get until you beat TK and get The Nexus Key.

The PvE and time consuming option for epic weapon would be HH/Thralmar exalted for sword and badge off hand with haste.

If you can't get the off-hand to drop out of Arc right away, Saga of Terokk is easily obtainable from a quest after running Sethekk Halls. Manual of the Nethermancer drops off the second boss in Mech.

I'd probly just take the Saga one until you can replace it with either of the other two.

The sword from the Shattered Sun rep vendor is also pretty nice, and you can do that without instancing if you're having trouble finding groups.

I got the Flaming Quartz Staff for fairly cheap at 70. It was a good intermediary until I upgraded to the Gladiator's War Staff when I worked up enough honor and marks from AV. Totally worth it as I saw a massive jump in dps.

Edit: Grammar and such

There are so many sword / dagger options that imo using your honor on armor upgrades is a better idea then the PvP weapons. Since the weapons are significantly more expensive in honor points, you can have two gladiator armor upgrades in that time and probably farm a weapon.
