Currently Im a 28 mage, and have been playing fire since the beginning. I LOVE my fire, but Im tired of being pwned by "fire ward" so I was wondering, should I branch to Arcane or Frost? Or am I even doint this right to begin with?!? Note:Ive NEVER rolled a mage in my 3 yrs of playing! D: If someone can Private message me with info Id be forever in your debt! ^_^

Where are you leveling that you are encountering Fire Ward?

Same question...

I choose fire at lvl 10 because it did more Damage than Frost. I never gave frost a real shot. I switched in my mid 50s.

You can easily lvl as fire. This Fire Ward issue is most likely you putting yourself in the wrong places. I have encountered them, but not enough to remember specific places, zones, etc. where they were a major issue (save the zones around the BR Mountain - but even then it was fire elemental mobs, not fire ward - but nothing at your lvl.)

When I first read that I assumed he meant other mages used fire ward on him while PvP'ing... not sure though.

If it is PvP, then there is frost ward too..

Yes, but no Arcane Ward :)

If you love fire, and you are getting 'pwned' by fire ward in PvP (the only real place I can think of an encounter with it at that level), then perhaps for nuking mages you should simply cast Arcane Missiles when it becomes apparent that they have it up. Frost would backfire thanks to Frostward.

I would suggest that above strategy. As for loving fire, if you're happy with it, then stay with it, it gets better with time. I've leveled up two mages now, one fire, one frost, both are fun to do. It's up to you though.

you are talking about the ones in the southern barrens. when you see that happen use frost or arcane spells.

i do not seem to remember having to deal with fire/frost wards on NPCs pre-50s or 60s.

then again im alliance so meh.

if you run into a mob using fireward, just cast a few frostbolts as the ward ONLY lasts 30sec.

to the poster who stated that would be worthless due to frostward, well you can ONLY have 1 up at a time and the CD is for both. so if it has fire up, it can not instant switch to frost. well at least a player can not.

if ya see the ward up, just hit it with arc missle, or frostbolt. the slow from the bolt is always a good thing anyways. you can also hit it with a low level spell to get it into combat, then sheep it until the ward falls, then nuke it down with pyro+fireball combo.

ive never had a problem leveling with fire, i could normally always take an elite my level and put him in the ground, anything lesser than elite was dead before it could reach me, entire mobs, bring 90 of them i dont care, im gonna nova flamestrike dragon breath and blast wave the whole crowd to death, fire is the way to go IMO

fireward only absorbs so much damage anyway, if your even half decent at playing a mage you can just waste a fireball on him then the ward will be gone and pwn him, you have several option with nova and sheep to control the fight it really shouldnt be a problem, if i was having that much trouble with it i'd just do what these guys are sayin hit him with frost bolts and arcane spells, shouldnt be having you questioning your spec

now i have noticed in several of the outlands instance runs there are mobs that can put up some kind of fireshield (and even in deadmines for that matter) that are on a timmer and NOT an absorbs X amount of damage. i have run my L70 mage in deadmines and hit them with a 2k fireball to have it IMMUNE... very irritating, thankfully they are so low on HP that i can just arcane explosion and make em go BOOM anyways.

The way i would is fire for your first 50 lvls. Then i would make the switch to frost so you can get water elemental.:)
