Arena and build questionFollow

#1 May 25 2008 at 12:23 AM Rating: Decent
Alright, so i'm makin a lock to play with my friend in arena. he is a frost mage.
and i was wondering if destro + curse of elems would be a good 2v2 for arena, (i really want to avoid being a typical SL/SL lock)

any tips or ideas would be helpful and appreciated

here's a link to my build so far that i've came up with...

That looks like a pretty good build, if you want to go destro with your build, I wouldn't have any complaints with that. I am (and have been) an affliction lock, and I have made it work pretty well with kiting. But being partnered with a frost mage, you wouldn't want to kite them around as they wouldn't follow you for more than 2 seconds before they go for your friend.

Have you tried a FG arena build?
It's quite fun, and gives you quite a bit of versatility.

Destro is weaker in arenas due to people stacking so much resilience.

I've tried almost all the PvP builds out there, and you won't survive 2v2 without SL/SL. It's sad but true.

Rather, you can survive some matches, but not enough to keep an effective rating unless you're pro at micro'ing your felguard.

Yup. For 2v2, you want to live longer than others and destro build is more squeeshy than sl/sl build. OF course, it also depends on your teammate. If you have a wonderful restro druid who has very high bonus heal and good at running.... There is a chance for you to win.

Then again, a rogue or any stealth class can own you easily. Unless.. 1. they are not good players.. 2. they have way worse gear than you.

I have a lvl 70 lock and play in the arenas. If your mage partner is good, then you could go destruction, you will be more squishy but the soulfire and the mages crits would do wonders for you. If you guys are struggling I'd say go demo/destruction or affliction, if you choose demo/destro you want to be sure to get shadowburn as well as the Felgaurd, if affliction then go Sl/Sl hope this helps

In general warlocks who are destro in arena are either on Burst Teams (such as Mage/Lock) or very organized 5s where they can SoC/Shadowfury etc. As for your talents I'd take out soul leech for Nether Protection as it's very powerful versus fire mages, warlocks, and priests.

Your mage partner would most likely need to respec to PoM/Pyro if you plan on staying destruction. The team is designed to win by burst damage. I honestly don't have much experience with burst teams. I ran SP/UA and now I'm running with a rogue.

I plan on trying felguard this week for arena. Sl/Sl has proven to be very lackluster in the ending weeks of s3. I went 5 and 5 as UA the first week of s4 (with a very undergeared rogue). Honestly though, as far as destro in arena goes. I would tend to stay away unless you have incredible gear. Start stacking haste.

Well, I like to PvP as Destruction. Its survivability in arena is ... to say the least, bad. Especially in 2's. The only really good specs for 2's for the last season and a half have been SL/SL and UA (with shadow priest or rogue), but Destro can work.

As a 5/5/51 build, I would go with this:

http://www.wowhead.com/?talent=IVZ0xZxx0trhtAuAo - and 1 point to spare. Personally, I would put into either Improved Healthstone or Pyroclasm.

The reason for going for ISB over Cataclysm is that you will still get your Fire School locked out, and ISB will help with Shadow Bolt, Corruption, Curse of Agony, Shadowfury and Shadowburn. Searing Pain should be a main nuke, unless you find yourself really able to get off Incinerates and Soul Fires - and that doesn't happen a whole lot.

http://www.wowhead.com/?talent=IZ0xZxv0trGtAuAo is actually the build I use when I do decide to respec. 8% chance to daze is still less reliable than 26% chance to stun on Soul Fire (lol at Hellfire or Rain of Fire in arena). But I also find myself frequently forgetting to cast Corruption when I use a 7/7/47 variant, so I don't even bother with the affliction tree. Soul Leech is just as important in a burst comp as Nether Protection, because you don't have a healer with you, though, so I would use both NP and SL, particularly because you will still have to Life Tap for mana.

With 2.4.3 changes soon to come, Curse of the Elements will be a tremendous boon for you both, since it will affect all the spells both of you have in your ******** so it is something to consider.

If you plan on getting some good ratings, though, I do suggest going SL/SL. If it's just for fun, the by all means, spec however you like. I have heard that Shadowfury can do well with a rogue, mage or hunter, or with some kind of healer. But remember that you will be farming shards - a lot - as Destro spec.
