SSO neck?Follow

#1 May 23 2008 at 7:51 AM Rating: Decent

So I went out and hit exalted with SSO. I did most of my dailies on my alt so my pally was way behind. Anyway, what do you guys think from a tanking point view. KI stay uncrushable and gain nearly 300 health. I do take a hit on my dodge but the SSO warrior shield is really nice to bring that back up. All in all, it seems a boost in most areas.

new neck

if you can spare the avoidance, i would go with the new one, the proc on that is +100 expertise for scryer. very nice, i actually use it when i solo on my ret pally.

not worth it imo, unless you're really hurtin for stam. melee hit and expertise are war tanking stats not pally.

As Ruen stated, the expertise is nice if your ret but, not much you do as a prot pally is based on your physical dmg, if it was we wouldn't be running around with 41 dps weapons :)

I thought that some expertise was more useful as keeping down the number of parries a mob would get, therefore making it an mitigation stat. No?

Yes the expertise should in part compensate for the lost avoidance, both are useful for threat (SoR can't proc if you can't hit it!) I plan on getting one as soon as I can get the avoidance. I'm aldor and I believe the proc is some dodge rating, which is nice.

I absolutly LOVE this necklace. I'm Aldor, and the proc adds about 5% dodge. Not only that, but it adds it within the first 1 to 2 hits of the fight and lasts long enough to down a trash mob. That means (esp if I use an avoidence trinket) I can become nigh unhittable for the first portion of a fight against a GROUP of hard hitting mobs -- Add HoJ into the equation and it makes fighting 3 things like fighting 0.5 things.

The Scryer proc would be MORE useful to a Warrior, but it certainly has benefits as a threat stat for Paladins. And the passive effects on the necklace are great too.

The Stamina doesn't hurt either.

After taking a quick look at some estimated numbers, I'll be buying the SSO neck and shield tonight (maybe tomorrow) with the idea that where I'm losing some straight avoidance on the neck, I'll make it up with the shield. Keeping uncrit/uncrush and gaining the stam and expertise. Check your own numbers to be sure that you're not losing too much before getting any new piece of gear!

The threat isn't as big a deal in my mind as keeping down the number of parries (especially early) in a boss fight. Getting 3 or 4 parries in a row on Price would, like, suck. A lot. ;p

I'm also thinking that the neck will be the only expertise item I'm likely to gear. So spending the itemization points there makes sense to me. And, really, in the end the expertise is a far secondary concern to the very nice stam on the thing!

Probably switch it out for trash mobs for a spell damage neck. But for bosses, this looks like an excellent tanking neck.
