UI Suggestions for Ferals?Follow

I started WoW about a month ago and have been doing 30-39 bracket BGs for a couple weeks. My skill has greatly improved in those two weeks, but I feel I could be a lot better if I could arrange my icons/abilities more efficiently. I've seen screenshots of UIs in a few different threads.

Is there a UI in particular that is favored by feral druids? What about addons?

I don't think there's any specific add-on compilation out there that is viewed as "the feral druid UI".

To arrange your icons/abilities, you will want an actionbar mod, like Bartender3 (http://files.wowace.com) or Bongos3 (http://wow.curse.com/downloads/details/12206/)

These also allow you to hotkey all bars and/or hide the bars alltogether, which is usefull if you want a clear view on the battlefield (though hotkeys take some time to get used to).

Those are all well and good and some people swear by theirs, but don't say that like it's gospel. I find the actionbar mods to be overrated and completely unnecessary myself. Once you get a simple addon to get rid of the dumb gryphons, the default UI works fine. Plenty of spots, well organized, and autoswaps your primary action bar based on form (yes I know the addons can do it, too, I just hear people say they want them for this feature which I never understand). And you can hotkey all action bars in the default UI, too, by the way. Hiding all my bars with a click, I've never once felt the need to do that.

I do wish there was a way to make my toon appear lower in the frame, thats about my only complaint.

Bongos 3 has an advantage over the default UI bars by allowing you to create custom sized action bars besides 1 wide by 12 tall and 12 wide by 1 tall, resizing them and placing wherever you want on the screen. I use a normal sized 12 wide by 1 tall action bar as my main, with a 12 wide by 1 tall bar representing my second action bar (which I use for trade skills and encounter-specific macros) right next to it. I also use an addon called G15 bars that mirrors the G buttons on a G11 or G15 (I use a G11), but with a bit of patience and work you can make Bongos work with the G15 profiler software; basically assign a unique key combo to a particular button in the Bongos options and set that unique key combo in the profiler under the desired G key.

I didn't mean to sound like a "download this or die" type of poster,
it's just that he asked for something to re-arrange his icons and abilities.

Anyway, if you want to re-arrange them (on the default UI or not), make sure the skills you use most are near your movement keys. e.g. if you use a WASD setup (and you probably do), keys ² to 4/5, Q and E. Extra mouse keys (thumb buttons) can help out as well.

For example, I have bearform bound to Q, catform to E, and travelform to V (for quicker shifting). Some important skills in bearform are feral charge, bash, demo roar (also to destealth rogues/other druids trying to restealth) and perhaps mangle if you have it.

Try to bind the pvp trinket to something useful too, but remember not to be too trigger-happy with it. Don't blow it on deathcoil, blow it on the fear coming right after the death coil. Don't blow it on cheap shot (unless really urgent), use it to get out of the kidney shot that will come right after that.

That's been my experience as well. Thanks to the separate action bars by form, my druid has more space than anyone. I really don't need to worry about the size and placement of the buttons since I bind everything to keys anyway.

:< Awww, I like the gryphons. But yes, in my experience I've never needed anything more then my default UI (and gryphons). One thing that could help knock out a few block if you need it is "Trinket Menu" it can display two boxes with whichever trinkets your currently wearing. A good combo with a gear swapping add-on like Itemrack.

As for Add-on's...

If you have several sets of gear you swap. Just pick whichever you like more.

(curse) OutFitter: a equipment swapping mod.

(Curse) ItemRack: a equipment swapping mod.

(Ace Wiki) ClosetGnome: a equipment swapping mod.

These are good from day one as a druid!

(Curse) Druid Bar: a movable mana bar that keeps track of your current mana, even while shapeshifted.

(Curse) DruidStats: calculates the actual stats you will gain when you equip an item, taking your talents and current shapeshift form into account.

These are more for Raiding or Instance runs.

(Curse) Omen: A Threat Meter.

(Curse) DamageMeters: A Damage Meter.

I've added this thread as a starter guide for you dr00ds as well. It can now be found here: http://wow.allakhazam.com/wiki/Recommended_Druid_Addons_%28WoW%29

Credit to Gryphon and others will be going in momentarily.

That's a great job, Wordaen...very nicely formatted and captures the key info, which I woulda loved to have as a new druid.

I do still take exception with a phrase you included: "To arrange your icons/abilities, you will want an actionbar mod..." because it makes it seem so mandatory. As the OP pointed out in response to my original criticism of that comment, that was said specifically in response to a developing twink in the 39 bracket who had asked for ways to optimize his UI for PvP.

I know I'm totally overthinking this, but I really think it should say "To arrange your icons/abilities, you may want to play around with some actionbar mods if you aren't happy with what you can do to the default UI."

^^;; Most of those are just the same Add-on's from my Druid Resources sticky from the Add-on section. ...but since you made a separate wiki page, I suppose we can be a bit more in-depth and add this to the Druid Resources sticky/wiki too. ::dons her goggles and lights her blow torch:::

Edit: I thinks I'm getting the hang of the wiki format, but is there anyway to make a little more space between the last section and the next headline? They just seem a little close to me. ^^;

I just changed the Heading to "Action Bar Modifications" I figure then it doesn't sound like you "have to" but if you want to you can. ^^

I also added Add-On Guides and moved the "Great from Day One!" section up higher. Also added Healbot, Lifebloomer etc.. since inside the scope of this thread they weren't necessarily needed but can be useful for Resto druids. (And I do hate leaving anyone out. ^^)

Personally ... I don't know any great PvP only druid addon's but if anyone does that too can make a great section.

Wordaen! I love how you had the link legend actually link to the main sites. I just changed it that way on the "A Resource Guide for Druids" wiki too.

About DruidBar: Pitbull unit frames (files.wowace.com again) has a built-in function like that.

These are not druid-only but they are frequently used in PvP:

Proximo:
http://wow.curse.com/downloads/details/8291/

Simple enemy unit frames for arena matches, to help in identifying and coordinating targets etc. Can show the talent builds of the targets.

Quartz
files.wowace.com

This is actually just a casting bar customization addon, but adjusting the enemy castbar to make it the size you want and put it where you want is very useful in PvP, in my opinion.

Capping
files.wowace.com

This addon tracks objectives in battlegrounds: how long before that graveyard/tower in AV is capped, how long it will take you (or the enemy) to win AB/EOTS at the current pace, who has the flag in WSG, etc.

Sadly, that's all I can think of at the moment.
