Does the 15% damage reduction whilst in Shadow Form affect Power Word - Shield? I know that the damage your shield absorbs is taken into account after armor and therefore it benefits from Inner Fire etc, but does it also apply to our shield?

WoW Wiki:

Quote:
The amount of damage absorbed by the shield is calculated after armor is taken into account. This means the shield will last longer on targets with more armor, and benefits from Inner Fire.

Thanks.

As far as I know the answer is yes. Shadowform's damage reduction is calculated before reductions due to armor so logically as the amount absorbed is calculated after armor is taken into account the number will already be correspondingly lower.

I'm guessing Pain Supression does the same thing then? Been on my mind lately as well. Would explain why my Druid having such a hard time killing Disc Priests.

I'm of the mind that all absorption mechanics occur after all other calculations have taken place; that is that PW:S only ever absorbs the amount of damage you'd have taken had PW:S not been in place.

As long as damage reduction effects are applied as % values there is no change in the subsequent overall value no matter in what order they're calculated so long as they're calculated prior to absorption mechanics. As far as I know they're calcuated individually rather than stacking so 15% (Shadowform) 40% (PS) and 40% (Armor) doesn't equal 95% damage reduction but 69.4%.

Example (based on that theory):

1000 base damage - 150 (15% Shadowform) = 850
850 - 340 (40% PS) = 510
510 - 204 (40% Armor) = 306

Total absorbed by PW:S = 306

And yes I'm aware that cos of their place in the talent trees it's not possible to have both Shadowform and PS but this is an example + of course another priest might have cast it on you ;)

The only thing I can add to this would be the +healing increase which is added to the absorption value of PW:S (30%) which, if it follows standing healing spells' mechanics, would be calculated based on your +healing at the time PW:S is cast.

Edit: My maths sucked Smiley: oyvey

Yes. It has been well-documented that PW:Shield absorbs damage after other modifiers are put into effect. This includes resistances, Inner Fire, Shadowform, and more.

I commonly see priests starting a solo pull by throwing up PW:Shield, but then I notice that they aren't keeping up Inner Fire. You will get more longevity out of your bubble it you do.

Edit: I am sorry... I wasn't very clear about this. When I say it is "well-documented," I mean that (1)I have seen this question asked and addressed on the main forums, and (2)I independently tested bubble longevity with all modifiers, back before Wowwiki was so well-updated with information like you posted. After spending quite some time doing this, I found our bubble to take on armor and resistance properties that we have at the time, including all buffs.

I apologize for posting something that is so anecdotal. If you have looked at my other posts, I prefer to accompany my remarks with screenies or links. However, since I'm just mirroring what most others are saying, I hope this will be okay.
