I'll find out. That's because I got a "Get into Beta Free" card at Blizzcon last year.

One of the reasons I reserve judgment on "OP" and heap scorn on those who say it is that the game has not been released and specs for every class have not been released. Yet the people who say "OP" pretend to have some super-sentient power and enough foreknowledge that would make them gods of WoW! Why don't they use their super-powers for good (and the American way) instead of posting stupidities on these forums?

The new Affliction talents are WAY overpowered, I call BS.

Death's Embrace: 3 ranks. Increases the the amount drained by your Drain life by 10% while your health is at or below 20% health, and increases the critical strike chance of your Shadow bolt and Haunt spells by 5% when your target is at or below 20% health.

Soul Depletion: 3 ranks. Your corruption spell ticks have a 5% chance of consuming 2% mana, 10 energy, 40 rage or a 10 runic power on effected targets.

Everlasting Affliction: 5 ranks. Your Corruption, Siphon Life and Seed of Corruption spells gain 4% (20%) more of your bonus spell damage effects, and your Drain Life and Shadow bolt spells have a 20% (100%) chance to reset the duration of your Corruption spell on the target.

Atrocity: Instant cast, no listed recast. You devastate the area, causing Corruption (Rank 8) to all targets within 15 yards. In addition, your Corruption spell will do 434 Shadow damage to the target when it finishes its duration.

Spell: Haunt (Rank 1, Level 80, 650 mana, 30 sec cooldown) - You send a corrupted soul into the target, doing 800 damage over 2 sec. Haunt will continue to travel between targets who suffer from your Corruption spell. After traveling from up to three targets, the corrupted soul will return to you, healing you for 50% of the total damage done.

There is no way these can go live as they stand. Every class out there would scream that Warlocks are OP all over again.....And they would be right.

Hrm.. I felt the exactly the opposite. Frankly the only one of those talents I would bother putting points into is soul depletion for atrrition fights in arenas.

Death's embrace - below 20% health is the last point in time I want to have my abilities. Warriors and sub rogues are basically designed to where once you're at 20% it's over anyway.

Everlasting Affliction - 20% more spell damage sounds nice on the surface but its just corruption and siphon life. What about CoA and UA? And its only about 30 more damage per tick.

Atrocity - Seeing this really made my heart sink. This is simply a situationally useful spell at best, not what we need from our 51 point talents. 95% of time I would say I'm perfectly fine with casting corruption on my enemies myself. And what's the point of adding a bonus to corruption at the end when our other new talent makes sure it doesn't end?

Overall I can't say I'm as hyped up about this new stuff as some of the others I've heard from. Maybe that's just the mages though, heh.

Shadowflame and haunt are fairly impressive. It would definately be nice to have some damage options other than dots that don't get spell pushbacked/silenced.

I can live with the fel armor nerf. At least the new demon armor will fend off the assist trains in arenas if only for two seconds.

The talents on the other hand ...ick. Attrocity is extremely situational, easily replaced by dot-tab-dot in my opinion. Metamorphasis and decimate look powerful on the surface but the cooldowns make me wary. I was really hoping to see some abilities that appeal to the war of counters and mobility like what frost mages and shadow priests got.

My overall assesment of the specs,

Affliction: Better off I suppose, better survivability with 11 points in demo at least, still low damage though.

Demonology: Completely butchered. Frankly lacks a purpose now. I don't see going past 17 points in it. Why is blizzard adding imp and succubus talents in the 8th and 9th tier where the felguard is? It was bad enough that we put 20+ points in buffing our pet just to kill it off with demonic sacrifice, now 50+?

Destruction: With improved shadowbolt nerfed and the new talents requiring us to mix it up with fire and shadow spells (demonic sacrifice is one element or the other) I don't see destro damage looking any better than it does now.

As a PvP'er I would probably run with something like 43/17/11. A full dot rotation plus shadowflame, haunt and shadowburn just might be enough damage to pressure healers in conjunction with warrior/rogue ms effects.

But assuming for a moment that all of this information is real... does anyone else think that talenting is getting a little out of hand? I mean, Blizzard has always said that they would eventually like to have character levels up to 100. What are the 61 and 71 point talents going to look like?

But the point is, you'll never have more than 1 51 point talent even if the cap was 100. You can get a FG+UA, but not 2 51-pointers.

Regarding level 100 - you'd get 91 talent points. You wouldn't be able to get two 51-point talents. Is that what was meant by your statement? You'd need 102 talent points to get two high-end talents.

Yes, That means that even when they raise the level cap up to where they eventually want it, they won't need to balance having 2 51pt talents.

Atrocity was recently replaced by Cripple in the latest update to the client as the 51 point affliction talent, just fyi. >=D
#35 Jun 08 2008 at 8:40 AM Rating: Decent
yeh i saw that, and im not a fan of cripple. The only thing i do like about it, is that it is spammable.

by pacify does that mean thye cannot attack? like when you get dusted by the teromoths in terrokar

I JUST fudged myself.

Good work, I hope these are real. Demon Form looks amazing.

Cripple means your target can't attack, yes, that's the same as the Teromoth's Pacify ability. They can't heal either, at present Cripple also silences the enemy. Expect that to change, they will want healers to be able to heal through your damage.

I'm glad they got rid of Atrocity, I can't think of a single benefit for that spell. It saves you GCDs but you risk dotting mobs that will later be CC'd in 5mans, it's really only good for annoying dispellers in Arena.

Browsing through the lists, it seems like most of the 51-point talents are PvP-oriented (or 5-man oriented; they most likely aren't going to be raiding talents unless something major changes in WotLK dungeons). That's probably a fairly smart design choice for Blizz, since it gives you more power while leveling but means that specialized raiding builds are going to be pretty wimpy in PvP, as most of them are going to look something like the current 0/21/40 build.

My take on this is that we won't really know whether the talents are PvE oriented until we know a bit more on the skills and abilities of the mobs/bosses. It could be that a talent that superficialy looks to be PvP-only could turn out to be something that will end up being a wipe preventer when we start going into WotLK instances.

i still think that demon form could turn out to be very pve and pvp based for us depending on how much damage it does... though regardless of if it is or isn't, simply by looking at the benefits gained to and from our pets through being like ##/50/## I could see alot of 'hunter like beastmastery' warlocks coming out as top dps due to the bonuses gained from the pets (especially the imp..)

POST EDIT

I was having a decent look through the available specs, 50/0/21 looks VERY viable, so does 0/21/50... though if you'd go fire/shadow or both is hard to say.

I think that Blizzard precisely saw that demonologists only use felguards now and decided to buff other pets in order to get some variety into the Demonologist's playstyle.

And about Demon Form. that model they use is a Varimathras-like Dreadlord, but I think they should change it for a demonhunter-type demon like Leotheras or Atiesh or the Cleaner, it would feel more right than that Dreadlord. And for those who say it has plate armor, I'd say maybe mail or leather-mail. Because, come on. Druid Dire Bear is supposed to match plate, it has a 400% armor increase from leather armor. Here we have a 360% armor increase from CLOTH armor. So be aware of that.
But still a good panic button in both PvE and PvP, and it apparently gives the Demonologist a way to do what he is normally incapable of doing: fighting WITHOUT his pet.

I don't see why everyone is so obssessed over Demon Form. The only use for this spell is if your going up against a burst team and then you can click an "OH NOES" button to save yourself, but seriously, what burst team targets the demo lock? With the extra 10 talent points and Soul Link pushed to a Tier 3 talent, you can go full affliction and still pick up the survivabilty of soul link. Damn! UA to prevent dispells, better drains, iHoT, Atrocity, and Soul Depeletion to drain even more mana. Also with the new spell Haunt, you don't need that "OH NOES" button since theres no way your gonna be downed.

obviously the demon form will have powerful abilities. seeing as it doesn't last long and has a CD it'll obviously have powerful attacks / CCs or something along those lines

I think these changes could very well be true. Everyone agrees that WoW is based on a rock-paper-scissor formula. Would be nice to shuffe those realtionships around a bit. Maybe locks will own rogues, but mages will own locks (for example). Would be a breath of fresh air for the game, IMO.

It's kinda funny that were getting a demon form i remember talking about this to a freind before this was annoucned "dude wouldent it be sweeet to have like a dreadlord transformation or something"

Oh yeah and why is soul link getting nerfed it use to give 5% extra damage to the caster and the pet?

Because right now it's way too necessary powerful for PvP. Any Warlock not taking it right now is either (1.) having fun ******** around in BG's or (2.) out to prove something. So instead of pigeonholing Warlocks into one specific build for PvP like they are now, Blizzard is trying to give you more options by making all three individual builds stand on their own.

The thing is, I'm not sure that they can do that without Soul Link, and I think they they're not sure they can either, which is why Soul Link got nerfed and shuffled to the top of the Demonology deck where it will be cheaply and easily available for any Warlock build without compromising builds for the most part.

I think it would be better for you guys if they just made Soul Link trainable, perhaps nerfing it just a little more to compensate, though that may or may not be necessary.

also because it has been moved alot lower in the talent tree (11 pointer compared to 31) so making it alot more available for other spec types... basically it'd be to OP to give what it used to at its new position.

No, Druid Dire Bear is supposed to exceed Plate. Recall that Druids can't Block or Parry or use a Shield, so they lose an awful lot of avoidance and mitigation due to their tanking style. Druids have the most armour of any class in the game when Feral specced. My lock currently has 1500-ish Armor, multiplied by 3.6 this is 5.5k. That equals somewhere in-between green plate gear and epic mail gear... we still dont know what the balance will be later down the line of course, for all I know Cloth will have its armour stat increased.

The big problem is, you lose Soul Link by using it, robbing you of that vital existing pure mitigation and your pet's abilities. Based on that, for Demon Form to have any use at all when it goes live (for PvE or PvP) it will need to cause some pretty kickass damage. We know that it can Shadow Volley everyone within 30yds at present (which is awesome...) but how these abilities scale, and how easy the Demon is to shut down with Stun, will decide the usefulness in the long-run.

Ill go ahead and say that if Demon Form doesnt offer a substantial benefit versus Warriors or Rogues, there's no point.

Oh, and new model on the latest Alpha: not bad really

Kind of looks like a cross between a Demon Hunter and a Dread Lord... perfect really.

Isn't that just Illidan in the picture?

You know why I think these are fake? Demonic Pact increases Spirit by 5%, when it has already been lowered by nearly all Demo locks through Demonic Embrace by 5%...

I REALLY hope the Demon Form isn't real. Why? Because it is essentially an ability that wastes all the previous points spent in the tree. All other "forms" gained from talents still USE talents from the tree, even if they do restrict the spell choices.

Great, so you could become a demon for 45 seconds (and fully healing the Warlock for that time? That seems cruel considering they already have huge Health pools). Too bad you just lost all of your great buffs. Oh, did you Sac your pet first? Good job! Now you have a buff! Oh wait, the 45 seconds are up, you are back to the low-health clothy form and you are petless...

Too bad that Rogue had vanished and avoided you while in Demon Form...

They arent fake.

Blizzard dont issue cease-and-desists against every page publishing the talents if it was just a big hoax. The good news is, the talents arent even close to finished, so any problems you might have are likely to be adjusted.

The one good anti-rogue ability the Demon Form had at one point was Immolation Aura... I dont know if it still does it, but at one point all characters within 6yds of the Demon Form are hit by Fire damage. If the pulse is appropriately timed it would prevent Rogues from using in-stealth abilities against locks.

And a 45sec buff that causes a Rogue to 'avoid' me? Best thing evarr. Having a Rogue spend an age trying to crack through my extended HP pool only to turn into a Demon and get maximum health back? It's like a Paladin bubble with teeth.

But, in arena terms, you are still dead. It's like a Pally bubble with many different pointy objects, all of which turn on you in the end.

If it used the demo talents, it wouldn't be annoying to me (besides the fact that I think of the Demo tree as the pet tree.)

If it breaks CC, like the Druid forms, I may submit. But, I REALLY hope it isn't just an Illidan form.

I wanna turn into an Eredar if anything. Original Warlocks and all...
