Question about +damage benefitsFollow

#1 May 21 2008 at 8:30 AM Rating: Decent
Hi guys,

Last night I spotted an interesting chest piece for my warlock that gives a +15 shadow damage as a benefit. Assuming I were to purchase and equip this item, how would the benefit be applied for DOTs?

The obvious answer is that every shadow bolt that normally does 100 damage, would now do 115 damage. But what about damage over time spells? If my DOT does say 100 shadow damage total divided up over 10 seconds (10 damage a second), how will the chest piece bonus of +15 shadow damage apply? Will I see +15 damage a second, or just +15 divided up over the 10 seconds (an extra 1.5 damage a second)? The reason why I ask is that every "tick" can be resisted, so does this mean the bonus damage can be reapplied per tick as well?

The bonus is spread out over the duration of the DoT. Each individual tic only gets a small percentage of the bonus damage.

I wasent aware DoT ticks could be resisted, only the application of the DoT can be resisted, no? Yeah, its divided over the number of ticks the dot has, Corruption = 6 ticks, 15 bonus Dmg/6 ticks = +2.5 dmg per tick, of course this is with perfect coefficients(100%), which corruption does not have, so it would be 1.75-2.25 bonus dmg per tick.

Resisting of DoT ticks. Sometimes I think I see it in SCT. But I've never been sure it was possible...

Anyone know?

Also, if you're an affliction warlock that uses Dark Pact, you will recieve back 96% of your +spell damage/+shadow damage. That means you'll drain the same amount of mana from your minion, but you'll receive a lot more.

Not to derail too much, but how does +dmg/+heal gear effect siphon life and drain life? Since there is both a damage and healing portion for both spells mare we double dipping? Not sure I'm wording this well, but hopefully someone understands what I'm trying to ask.

+DMG is added to the Channeled DMG, your spell dmg is divided up over the duration of the spell then each damaging tick is affected by your +heal when the spell returns life. Siphon life I believe is only affected by +DMG.

DoT ticks can be partially resisted by someone with the appropriate resistances. In PvE, most noticeable against bosses with their 6% resistance; you end up with a number of partial resists.

on spells that have both a heal and a damage part it will use 50% of your bonus damage for the damage part, and 50% of your bonus healing for the healing part.
unless they changed it..
(also worth noticing, not all spells get 100% spell damage bonus, but im not sure about the drain life spell)
