Is it correct that the damage value of wpns refers only to melee damage? If thats the case, then weapon skill is not really important for mages right? A mage should get a wpn then has attributes that are important like itellect and spirit...or one that adds spell damage...

100% correct, although I am still trying to hit 350 swords (I am at 349 atm!)

hehehe a few of us perfectionists cant sleep at night without maxing out every skill, even if we dont use it. I myself am still at 332 for staves, going to take a long while yet...

I am one of those perfectionists. Staff, sword, and dagger skills are all maxed lol. I have actually won pvp fights and duels before with my dagger when I'm oom lol.

my fang of the leviathan hits for about 60-80dmg per swing.

Perfectionist here! Can't go anywhere without organizing my bags (i.e. quest items in this bag, equipment in this one...) It doesn't hurt to max your staff level. You'll just be more 1337.
