Hey, I know there are various threads dedicated to leveling but I want to compare and contrast different leveling styles.

I've heard about pulling groups of mobs and using blizzard on them, is this an efficient way of leveling? Do the talent points put into key abilities for this hurt in instances?

Fire makes me go oom too fast and isn't very efficient when soloing.

Arcane does not have any good talents for my level.

I am currently leveling frost, and like the damage output and snare effects.

Here is my armory:

Feel free to suggest enchants (Nothing above 200 gold), gear, and talent builds.

Well, I leveled a mage as both fire and AOE grinding (the blizard thing you are referring to). A long time ago, that was the most effecient way to level (it's also very boring... I killed the same mobs in the same field for days on end). With the changes to the XP granted by questing, quest-grinding is the fastest way to level.

Using fire is not nearly as mana inefficient as people say. I found it was fine, and didn't go out of mana significantly faster than as frost, unless you start using lots of instant AOEs. Arcane isn't effective (IMO) until you hit outland, then you can go 40/10/0 and build up to the standard 40/21/0 or 41/20/0 (depending on your love/lack-of-love for slow).

Putting talents into a frost AOE build will hurt your damage output as you must not have frostbite. This reduces the opportunities for your shatter crits.

Have fun leveling.

At level 22, I would not recommend putting money into enchants. You'll be changing your gear so fast.

Leveling frost vs fire....it doesn't matter. To each their own. One is not better than the other. People have preferences, but in reality, both are fine.

AoE - you may not want to try until lv 28. That is when you get the next level of Blizzard, and can do real damage. It can be done earlier, but it's quite hard.

Speed of leveling - questing will level you the fastest. AoE builds can help with that since you can do the grind quests VERY quickly. However, it is not necessary.

If you plan on soloing a lot, get Frostbite. It increases you survivability, and increases your soloing damage output (via Shatter crits). But, you can't AoE...so pick your poison. I leveled with an AoE build, and it worked just fine. I would rarely be fighting single mobs :)

For your gear - get your wand from the lvl 30 quest (from Tabetha in Dustwallow Marsh). That is an awesome wand. You'll need help to do it at lvl 30, but it's worth it. Then, get the Orb from the other Tabetha quest at lvl 35. Again, you'll need to pull in help for some of the quest chain. Other than that, just have fun.

When I started my new char I was frustrated about the leveling process. So I looked for some help and found perfect solution. If you just want to lvl fast then it's almost like grinding but not boring...

This is atm great leveling guide and it really makes sence and cuts down running around without purpose (which was my biggest problem in leveling).
I used it so that media player classic was open offering me some boredomfightingsweeties and I used Wow in windowed mode so it was easy to swap between Wow and guide.

Cos I knew all the time where to go next I didn't get bored or pissed at all.
