A few months ago, while running around in Outlands with my Pally enjoying endgame, I came up with a plan. I had a warrior in mid-50s and my hunter was mid-40s. My Pally has alch and herb, warrior has BS and mining, and my hunter had leatherworking and skinning. So, I decided to level my hunter and make him my gathering toon, and level my warrior for fun. My hunter just hit 70 and was maxed with mining and herbing before I got to Outlands.

So, my goal was accomplished, right? I can now drop mining on my warrior and herbing on my pally and pick up two other crafting professions.

Well, the thing is, something unexpected happened. I am enjoying playing my hunter. After L60 he became a real kick for me. Of course, it may have something to do with pally dps, or lack thereof. I did one-shot a squirrel once.

I read a bit in here along the way, but never really concentrated on things as I figured my hunter would only fly around and gather. Now I'm trying to catch up and its a bit overwhelming. Moreso because I recently decided to spec prot on my paladin and try tanking.

I've read the stickies, the threads here, and have checked out some other sites, and wanted to thank all of you who contribute to this forum. Its been a real help. With all the suggestions and information in here, I'll be geared and running Kara in no time!

Meanwhile, I have a question for the 70s in here. I will do what I find fun, but I was wondering, what would you do if you knew what you know now and were just hitting 70?

I'm not looking for suggestions for what I should do, as you would need to know a lot more about my likes and dislikes. I'll figure that out on my own. Just thought it would be interesting to see the responses.

Thanks.

Gearing up.

70 is all about endgame. Choose PvP or PvE and start gathering gear.

One thing I definitely would have done differently is the rep grind.
I would have run instances 10 times more than I did while leveling through Outland, just because doing the rep grind now with Honor Hold / Lower City / etc / etc / ect is boring as hell.
I found out that doing instances 1st and saving the quests until later is much more rep efficient.
That applies to levels 60+, not just approaching 70.

As a gathering toon, the rep grind is almost pointless. You get enough rep doing a moderate amount of 5-mans and the majority of the quests. The only things i find my Hunter lacking is Aldor rep for the epic shoulder enchants. Cenarion is easy enough for the head enchant, and most everything else is focussed towards professions (not all of it of course!).

IF you have a good core group of friends in your guild and can join them relatively soon in kara (sort of getting run through), you will gear up for higher content quite quickly. I am currently finishing my resto druid's grind to 70 and gave up on rep grinding pre-70... I love resto and actually quite enjoy soloing as resto (it's like practice for pvp... do crappy dps quickly, root, hot, cast dps, then get ready to shift into whatever suites the situation), and and one of the most sought-after member in a group, but pugs are still killer!

The thing i enjoyed most early in my career at 70 is my flying mount!!! hahahaha i flew around for an hour :D

The thing i would do differently at 70 is gather a group for 5v5 or 3v3 immediately!!! Go buy the S.5 gear (rep pvp gear) and jump right in! if you have a really good friend, do some 2v2 together for fun, even if your classes dont mesh very well together. S3 gear is still such a huge upgrade from fresh 70 gear that it is very worth the short amount of time needed to grind it if you have a large team that plays consistently every week.

... I have the advantage of loving pvp :D

ENJOY!

Thanks for the responses. I hope I made it clear in my original post, I am not looking for suggestions on what to do now, I just thought it would be interesting to see what people would do differently. But I'm beginning to think that its no different for hunters than anyone else; if I was leveling my pally through outlands again I too would do a lot more instances - I agree that doing instances first and quests later is a better way to go.

Anyway, the point is that I'm really having fun with this toon, something I didn't expect would happen. Not that it was a chore leveling him, but after L60 it really became fun. I give you guys a lot of credit - its not easy playing a hunter competently. And I saw this really cool Hunter Weapon drop on a run the other night . . .
