Couple of Raiding questions (threat and how too gear up now)Follow

Recently I respec'd from 6/44/11 too a typical 21/40 shadow destro, just too see the difference in my dps. I'm pretty much right on the cusp of it's viability with maxed hit, more then enough spell dmg and reasonable crit for it.

The difference was fairly surprising, my raid members actually commented a lot about how much damage I can dish out now. My problem however, is now I'm having too hold back..quite a bit on some fights..too avoid becoming the main tank. >.>

I should note that, at least at the moment, I'm stuck in karazhan. And though I'm by no means an expert, I'm thinking that when 1200 personal dps on prince is holding back...I may out gear it at this point >.>

Even soul shattering only buys me a few SB's before the crits get me right back too generally within 1k of the MT. Still I manage my threat very well and have never pulled agro off him. I suppose I'm just wondering if this is a problem for the spec throughout raiding, or does it diminish some with higher geared tanks?

our Mt and OT are in no way under geared, but none of us have done (well successfully) anything beyond kara as we aren't a raiding guild.

Also, kinda related to this topic, I'm starting too wonder where I should go from here. aside from the shoulders in Hmgt, there aren't anymore obvious gear upgrades after my next badge purchase outside of 25 mans.

I don't want to leave the guild I'm in now for gear, and I enjoy running kara with our group. But I'm wondering if theres anyway for me too get into some 25 mans. Unfortunately I don't know anyone in a guild that does these, and the thought of 25 man pugs scares me >.>

though that may be my only option I guess as I want the champion of the naaru title before it's discontinued =/

Am I just stuck until wotlk?

if a few shadowbolts put you right back under the tanks threat your tank needs to learn to generate threat, btw casters are able to surpass tank threat by 130% if they are outside melée range, so hitting soul shatter before you even pass the tank is stupid, and yes, as a destro warlock in T4 we do out DPS the tanks TPS, simple solution.

Start fight > CoA > Corruption > Immolate, wait for dots to expire then CoS>SB spam. Learn percents or get an addon that notifies you of a certain threat % passed the tank hit soulshatter, and you should drop off the threat meter and be in the clear.

Fortunetly our guild had a tank who knew is role and hes the best tank ive ever seen, with the above rotations I have never pulled aggro from him. If you catch your tank in threat try doing a 10 Shadowbolt, 3 lifetap rotation, by the time you bandage your self tank has gained a lot of threat ready for your next sequence

Yeah I knew about the 130%, I go as high as I can usually, but sometimes I need to ride right below the tank. (Prince phase 1 and 3 for example)

I usually wait for the tank to gain 10k threat before I do anything aside from CoS the target (for bosses). My normal SB hits aren't a problem, it's when I get that inevitable string of 5k-6k crits that I shoot back up. typically my rotation is four SB's >>> Life Tap >> Repeat, this combined with soul leach procs and renews keeps my mana/health topped off.

If I am going as hard as I can, I usualy back off at 120% assuming soul shatters on CD, so I don't crit burst above the threat threshold.

Generally it's just after mid fight and late fight that I catch the tank and have to ride threat. Sometimes too the point where I count a second or two out before each SB cast >.>

Nightbane in particular this problem was obvious due too his threat resetting after each phase.

I may try the DoT rotation, that sounds like it could def be a good idea to start the fight with.
the 10SB/3 LT rotation may work too..though our healers have a habit of healing me up if I drop too low. even if I ask them not too, just habit I'm sure. So it would still leave me sitting there doing nothing for a time. *shrug*

I have a funny feeling I'll be worrying about threat soon, depending on which tanks are on the run, so this was a good question with a nice answer. :o)
