I've been a diehard PvE mage, and I still mostly enjoy raiding. However, I was bored a few nights ago and felt like trying PvP out. So, I picked up all the blue PvP gear from the various rep vendors and hopped in a BG. After playing for 2 minutes, I realized that I didn't want to gouge my eyes out. I played for another couple minutes and found myself really enjoying it.

I plan on farming the S1 set and getting into Arena pretty soon, however, I realized that I don't really know exactly what a mage DOES in Arena. Do we pew pew everything that moves? Do we support the rest of our team? I'm kind of confused. If anyone could tell me or direct me to an educational Arena video, I'd be much obliged.

Also, I'm not sure how to spec my mage. I've heard repeatedly about the cookie-cutter 17/0/44 build, but I've yet to see where those points go. If anyone can drop a link showing me what it looks like, that'd be sweet as well.

Thanks ever'body

This is pretty standard pvp learning video for mages. I am currently 17/0/44 this is how I used my talent points, but there are variations.

And remember to not buy S1 gear as S2 will soon be available for honor instead.

In arena I usually spend my time controlling 1 on the other team, while my partner downs the other. Sheep, imp cs, rank 1 frost bolts on my guy, instant casts on the focus target, then we switch to who I've been keeping under wraps to finish out the game.

In short... yes.

The thing about being a mage in arena is you have to manage your time very well. You may have to sheep one target, then CS that healer so you can get a shatter combo off on that other target to finish him off. Or you may have to kite that war then IB though that rogues opening moves so you can stay alive long enough for your teamates to kill that pally. I'm always switching my sheep, DPS, and CS targets though a match.
