What to do with my BadgesFollow

I think this was discussed before, but I can't remember where (this site or another) that I read it, so forgive me. And, it's a little late :) but I was wondering about the IQD Badge gear and whether or not it would be worth spending the Badges on.

I've been told twice now by people in the guild to, "Just go get the new Badge gear. It's how I geared up such-and-such alt of mine," because I'm not quite geared for boss tanking in Hyjal/BT. That's all well and good, but teh new Badge gear seems very lackluster to me, and I want to make sure I'm not missing anything.

As for the Paly items, I have the legs already, but I really can't see the chest or the boots being an upgrade at all. The chest is pretty much crap no matter how you look at it, and the boots could be a side-grade more then anything.

For the Warrior items, the chest I believe would give more avoidance, but I'd be losing out on a decent amount of threat generation due to a loss in Block and lower spell damage. My current chest also has the potential for more health. Then the belt, again my current one has the potential for more health, gives me more threat, and I believe the way I gemmed it gives better avoidance as well.

So once again, am I missing anything in here? Or are the people who keep saying to go get Badge gear just naive about how poor they really are for me?

Thanks for the links. Seems to confirm my suspicion that my Badges will serve me better on Ret and/or Holy gear then on Prot gear. I am wanting to get the 2.4 ring though, but after that it seems there'll just be "situational pieces" from Badges cause I have all the rest that is mentioned in that top 10 list, or better.

I also was looking around, think it was on maintankadin, and found a list of the best tanking items in game for Prot Palys, including Sunwell stuff: most of the Badge items for 2.4 were not in that list period, except the legs and ring.

Maybe I'll link these in the Paly forum on my guild site so people get it through their heads Badge gear is NOT the be-all end-all of leet gear in every situation.

My friend, who's usually our primary healer, has been gearing up his alt Protection Paladin. We sat down together and worked out a few ideas for Badge gear when the new vendor opened on our server.

So just adding another flavor to the ideas in those threads. I think the legs are definitly worth it for people who are looking for an upgrade from Badges.

I'd take the Stoic Guardian WWWAAYY before even looking at the new Spell Damage chest. The "Warrior" chest is a little trickier, but I'd say the Stoic still comes out on top.

The boots are actually pretty valuable in one respect. Quite a bit of the new gear gives very nice procs at the loss of passive avoidence+block. If you aren't heavily geared already, it means you might make yourself Crushable by using some of them. The SSO necklace for example. If you don't need it, both of the tanking boots from Kara are probably better, if you do though they're invaluable.

Basically I'd agree that they aren't crazy impressive. The legs do look like they'd be worth it for many though.

Is there a spreadsheet or something that i can plug in items or items stats and tell me were i would be at as far as defense, avoidance. So i know which items i can gear i can purchase and still be uncrushable?

I don't know of a spreadsheet, but the addon Tankpoints (part of the Ace collection) has a calculator screen that lets you check anything you want.

I use TankPoints to do my calculations. It's very user friendly so to speak, and even though it is designed with a Warrior tank in mind, it still does just as good a job for a Paladin: minus tanking into account spell damage.

So thanks again for the posts. Everything I hear keeps steering me further and further away from the rest of the Badge gear that I have not purchased yet (except ring). Maybe the boots, eventually, but I have the crafted "tier 5" boots which are still very nice. I could see the gear being good for someone looking to upgrade from Heroic/instance gear, and partial Kara gear, but with what I have ... blah.
