How does the new WotLK stamina --> spell damage conversion change this? Will we be using more avoidance weapons once this comes in to play because we will have enough threat generation without a spell damage weapon?

i will say yes and no. that being yes you will be getting spell damage for sta but at same time since we loose salv haveing a spell damage weapon over avoidance would help alot more on threat and give that much more ablitie for the dps to burn named/trash down. that being said no one really knows for sure untill we get to see it in person. i for one think i'm gonna keep rolling with spell damage weapon and if i need more avoidance i'll pick up even more warrior style gear. seems they have more dodge/parry.

It maybe even use spell damage weapon when on trash or oting, then use avoidance with maybe 40 SD when tanking. who knows?

well..tommyguns is the only one here that seems to think suneater is good for pally. I have a 70 prot.warrior and 68prot pally.. how would you like it if my warrior rolled on a mace that has a lot of spell damage? it is absolutely useless to me, same goes for sun eater pally dont need it.I agree, warriors and pallies tank differently, gear and weapons.I have the suneater, for my WARRIOR,I would never roll on that for my PALLY,worthless, just get a spell damage weapon please thank you :)

Well firstly it's quite possible that there was no Warrior present seeing as how it drops in a 5 man. In that case, there is no issue. And I can't even remember the last time I saw a Warrior TANK a 5 man ... Always Paladins and Druids. Most Warriors I see looking for Heroics are Fury spec (not that that has anything to do with using this weapon, but still =P).

Secondly this whole argument may very well become null and void once Wrath hits. That still remains to be seen, but we're getting a new skill that deals 100% weapon damage as Holy damage making a Warrior type weapon far more attractive. Also the talent converting our stamina to spell power means we don't have to stack spell power from our weapon and we'll be getting much more from melee stats then we currently do.

Blizzard is wanting to cut down the amount of "specialized" gear so I would be willing to bet the intent is to get Warriors and Paladins to use the same weapons for tanking and leaving the spell weapons to the caster classes. It may not come to this, but again, we'll have to wait and see (unless someone has been tanking in the beta and cares to share ;)).

i think you are right maulgak. but i think a spell damage weapon may help some like on start of boss fights just to jump out in threat alittle bit more on cast of AS and first judge. Then switch to warrior style weapon and hit the ability that uses weapon damage you was just talking about. Might be a tactic to use maybe make a macro to change then use the ability. who know i know i'm not in beta wish i was though.

I was thinking about that, and you're right, this may become a common tactic: use spell weapon and cast Avenger's Shield, then swap to a "Warrior" weapon and continue the fight. I'm not sure I could get myself into that habit though. I tried with Librams, but that didn't work out (before the change to where item swapping caused the GCD).

yeah thats the only thing is with the GCD. But it maybe a good tactic hit aoe cast AS then switch back to warriro weapon should have a few ticks of aoe down depending on distance. or maybe switch the rotation. wish i could get on beta and try some of this stuff out lol.

Yea, I was hoping to get into Beta too, but alas, no such luck =/

One thing that's kinda been bothering me, and I haven't seen it mentioned yet: what does anyone think about the change to the daze portion of Avenger's Shield? Increased from 3 seconds to 10 seconds. I don't really liek this change. It could be good for (lawalProtIn) PvP, but it is generally very annoying in PvE with groups greater than 3.

You aren't out of luck yet. There are new people entering the beta all the time, and I think there are going to be a few phases where a large number of new people are brought in if I read the info right.
