Loot Question?Follow

#1 May 18 2008 at 10:46 AM Rating: Decent
I have a quick question about whether or not I was right to roll need last night.

I was in a PUG to heal Seth Halls. The group consisted: a 70 Warrior (T4 gear) and a 67 Druid both in the same guild (the druid got the group together). Also was a 66 Rouge, a 70 Mage, and me a 68 Pally. After the 1st to bosses we kill a mob and a level 69 blue shield drops (i don't remember the name) that was BoE. It had healing stats and I was the only one in the group using a shield (the warrior was passing on everything). I asked if I could roll need, they said sure and I got the shield. Everything is good then 5 minutes later the mage starts to complain, claiming that I can't even equip the shield. I agree but tell her that I am 100k pts away and will be there tomorow. She keeps complaining, mind you nobody else has any problems with my roll, eventually she just leaves the group. So my question to you is, was I ok to roll need on a shield that was one level above me? And the shield was an upgrade for me along with having healing stats on it.

Thanks for any answers.

Well, there's nothing wrong in rolling Need on items you can use now or later on.
The mage should be a little ashamed of herself to be honest.

I would like to see the shield.

If it was a direct upgrade and you were equipping it on the spot then fine, of course rolling need is perfectly fine. If it is a spell damage shield, a **** poor pally shield or its 2 levels above you then perhaps not.

The only level 69 BoE Blue shield is the Crystal Pulse Shield. Definitely a Pally healer shield. Assuming you're a holy Paladin, and especially since your entire group at first agreed, it was fine that you rolled on it.

If you're a different spec, well, then that's just silly. But yeah, sounds like you're totally within your rights to it.

Figured it was that one but didn't want to Jump to Conclusionstm~!

In that case the Mage is a snivelling whiny ***** and you should pay no attention to him other than taking the time to find him a tampon.

It's also a Shammie shield.. but yea, clearly a healer's shield.

I can think of two claims a Mage would have to it. First, they want to sell it as it's a popular item that sells fast (though very common). Second, they wanted it for their alt.

Well, if they were going to sell it, you planned to use it. So you have better claim to it.

If they were going to give it to an alt, they're retarded. I'm of the mind that no one deserves to claim BoE gear/patterns/whatever for their alts while playing another char unless EVERYONE decides they don't want it OR the shard OR the money from AHing it.

If you can use it, you have the right to roll on it. If they felt that your claim wasn't strong enough that you should be given it, they could have rolled against you. Then a fair random draw would have chosen the winner.

Even so... it's like 20g on the AH. Even if he wanted it to sell it, all he has to do is like 2 or 3 dailies and he's got the same amount of money.

It was really nothing for the mage to get upset about or quit the party for.

This is probably the same Mage that when I was taking my Warrior through SM rolled NEED on the shield, and won it over me ... Something about Mages and shields that I will never understand ...

I've had that shield drop 4 or 5 times for me (only rolled for it once, and got it) and we had 2 or 3 in guild bank as well. They don't sell very well on my server, so I ended up sharding it instead (sold better that way). I also got the shields from my GM to shard. I think we kept one.

I don't mind people getting stuff from alts, I just think they should fork out the g's for it. Divide gold among group and let the BoE go to the one wanting it for an alt. Also, getting stuff for offspec is fine, as long as noone else in group use it for the spec they're in atm.

Cheers :)

It's not just mages. I once lost a roll on a shield to a 'lock. Offspec of course, I didn't really NEED a nice tanky shield, but I'm sure the imp-molester needed it even less than I did.

Some people in this game simply don't know how to make money...
Some become aggressive, may be they are too casual to feel good in a MMO... I understand them, but sadly their behaviors make people run guild only instances...
