Raid Build - Now what...?Follow

#1 May 18 2008 at 8:53 AM Rating: Decent
Check this out

I'm going for Aff because my gear is geared towards it more than Destro. BUT...wtf do I do with the last 4 points IF I'm not concerned about PvP.

If I am, then its 2 in iHoT and the other 2 in Demo, ofc. But let's assume I'm not...

Depends on your raid groups. For 10-mans, Imp CoA. For 25-mans, see if you're on Imp duty or CoS/CoE duty. Also, points in Imp HS as appropriate for your raid.

For the warlocks better at theorycraft:

How many warlocks / SPriests need to be in the raid for a 3/3 Malediction CoS + CoA from a Destro to be better than CoS from a Destro + CoA/Amp CoD from an Affliction?

Same question, but with CoE and Fire mages?

i can't believe no one has said this yet....

2/2 improved drain soul.
it's needed for the 10% threat reduction... doesn't matter how crap your gear is, there will always be situations where threat is an issue (mainly threat capped bosses) so this is a godsend.

also if you've got less than about 25% crit rate, UA > ruin for an afliction warlock, so i'd swap 1 point in devestation and ruin for:

3/3 malediction
1/1 UA

the reason why I'd suggest malediction is because if you have at least 1 extra shadow caster or two fire casters, CoS/CoE will be a larger raid dps increase than an afliction lock using CoD. also if you're doing a 10man with only 1 shadow or fire caster you should be using CoReclessness. roughly a 5-6% dps increase to melee classes, also the increased healing requirement is minimal at best with the exception of a few bosses (gruul, mul'gar, prince Phase.2, nightbane being the main ones to worry about, for just about all other bosses CoRec isn't an issue, especially with a good tank / a few good healers)

POST EDIT

this is the build I'd suggest

Thanks, guys.

Pretty standard build that, Jen. And I know that's cos it works. :o)

You're right about Imp. Drain Soul. 10% threat reduction is massive and I hadn't spotted it.

I do have less than 25% crit. But I still crit surprisingly often with my SBs. I want to try Ruin out, so I'm gonna keep it.

There are NO mages in our raid group so I have 2 points left after Imp. Drain Soul.

Leaving me three choices:

Malediction - a waste without a mage, but good for CoS (which is not my duty)
Imp. Imp - very tempted by this for the raid buff
Imp. Healthstone - we have two' locks, the other 'lock has it and provides a Soulwell

We ONLY do Kara (at the moment) and are dipping our toes into ZA.

So what to do with last two points? I'm leaning heavily towards to Imp. Imp.

Two at T5 level. 3% of 2000-2400dps is much better than the extra bit of damage from Amped Doom every few minutes.

another way to look at it is that 'roughly' CoD is a 180 dps increase (yes this varies with gear, but it's a nice medium number which applies to early to mid T5 content) meaning that you need minimum two shadow/fire casters who each deal over 900dps for CoS/CoE to be greater than your own CoD. now 900dps isn't much and is definately achievable by two mediocurely geared casters who know how to play..chances are in a 25man instance you'll have 3-4 casters who'd benefit from CoS/CoE which would put it above CoD basically regardless.

seeing as inop is talking about kara/za... whether or not malediction is worth it is entirely dependant on if you actually have two casters who'd benefit from CoE/CoS and whether or not they break the 180 (maybe 150-160 being more appropriate in this scenario) mark. if they do, you might as well go malediction... though generally under the assumption of 2 physical dps + 2 tanks... CoRec is likely to be the better choice for total raid dps increase (unless the physical suck **** :P)

I've dumped the pont in Suppression, put two in Imp. Drain Soul and put the other three in Imp. Imp - just so you know. I'll see how it goes.

Typical Kara group make up:

2 tanks (Warr/Drood)
3 physical dps (with one switching to tank as required) (Hunter or Rogue/2 x Drood)
2 caster dps (2 x Warlock)
2 main healer (Pala/Priest or Pala/Pala)
1 off healer/utility (Priest)

I personally would prefer a mage in this group but I don't actually think we have one in the Guild!!
