Warlock tips for OutlandsFollow

I returned to WoW some weeks ago and rerolled as a Warlock. By the end of this week I expect to go to the Outlands for the first time! I don't know very much about the new areas, but also haven't spent much time reading. I figure I'll try and enjoy the novelty of not knowing and do look ups on a quest by quest basis, if I get frustrated.

However, I would appreciate knowing if there is anything a Warlock really should know! What level should I leave the old world? Any quest items that I should make sure to pick up? And stuff like that. For example, I'd say the Carrot on a Stick and the trinket from ST are must gets from the old world. Or maybe here there is already a great guide out there that I've over looked? I didn't see a sticky (I don't think) that was pertinent.

Thanks!

Bloody hell, where to start?

Ok, you can go at 58 - and if you're demo you'll find that ok. If not, you may find it hard going til 60, so maybe go then.

You'll then be in Hellfire to 62 minimum. There's nothing 'lock specific there, but as soon as you hit Zangarmarsh and Terokkar Forest (especially) there are some things to look out for.

Off the top of my head, there is a trinket with "Vim" in the title. Get that for starters. Loads more, but that's my bit done.

When to enter outlands:

Demonology ~ 58
Affliction ~ 60

"If your ever stuck on a quest, often times the quest log will point you in the right direction"
meaning Outland quests are very detailed and will often say "South of here" (meaning South of quest giver)," over at the ruins to the east" ( ex. Fel reaver ruins in eastern Hellfire Peninsula),

If you play a horde I came accross this post once and found a list of Quest and locations ect..I hope it helps

http://wow.allakhazam.com/db/quest.html?wquest=10287

I am sorry there is only a list for horde quest but I am sure some must be the same for both factions.

Alliance quests and horde quests have different objectives whilst keeping the same rewards (HFP) for certain, the only quests that are the same for both factions are ones with repeatable quests, Shattrath, Scryers, Aldor, Violet Eye, Consortium, Kurenai, Keepers of Time, Scale of Sands come to mind

My 2c is go to Outlands regardless of talent tree. I am affliction and went out there within the hour of dinging 58. That said, I do think it is quite tough for 58-59, but it is doable.

For me, 58-60 was about three hours. I was leveling so fast it is headspinning, plus the quest rewards in Outlands are far superior to anything you get in Kalimdor or Eastwhatsit. Lot's of people are sending out LFG messages for quest groups to get things done quicker on my server, so maybe yours will be the same.

Once you go through the portal, talk to the flight master around to the right and you will be pointed to Thrallmar. That is the main Quest area for the new Outlanders. There is also another two you will get to, Spinebreaker Post and later on, Falcon Watch. I am a bit into 62 and have done nearly all the quests for Hellfire and will be moving onto Zangarmarsh.

Hey. I don't know if you were looking for a guide or whatnot. But Jame's guide is really good and very descriptive. It'll help you find things a lot quicker and he just came out with his 60-70 guide. Even if you don't want to use it all the way through this will give you a good start. Here is the link http://www.wow-pro.com/leveling_guides/james_horde_leveling_guide This is for the horde version but im sure if you look around a bit you can find the alliance one. Hope this helps

My alt is afflic and went there at 58. No problems whatsoever, except for an occasional Fel Reaver. Then again, I drain hunt, not drain tank. I think it would be a real hassle to someone used to drain tanking at L58.

I went to Zangramarsh right away, in order to visit the fishing trainer. There was a rough patch at the pass, but again, not really a problem as long as you take the mobs one at a time.

If you know how to play your spec, you shouldn't have problems.

The main idea is to hit up Hellfire to 63, Terrokar to 63-65/66, Nagrand 66-68/69, Blades Edge 68-70, main reason? Shadowmoon and Netherstorm have agonizingly long quest chains, long quest chains = more gold as level 70 players get roughly 9-13g per quest instead of experience

I did the crazy thing of Hellfire (62) > Zangarmarsh (64) > Nagrand (68) > Netherstorm (70)

Purely by chance as they were the first areas I came across. I didn't find Shatt for ages!!

At 58, you can do a couple of the outlands starter quests and get some great gear. Then I usually grind demons until level 60. The demons are level 57-59 or so. Do some of the easier Hellfire quests and head to Zangarmarsh at level 61.

Zangarmarsh has a lot of neutral mobs, so you don't draw nearly as many adds as you will in HFP. At 63 or so, head back and finish up the HFP quests.

Then again, I tend to do a lot of grinding in Zangarmarsh, saving the quests until I've got all the "turn-in" rep I can get.

I recommend you grab the FP at Shat and make it your hearth home. This way, you can get to a bank rather easily and use the portals to go to Org, UC, etc., where you can access an AH. Their is no AH in Outlands, so anything you pick up you want to put into the AH, will be sitting in your bags, until you get to Shat.

Once you get to Shat, you should go back to doing what the above posters said.

Except you can't make it your hearth home until you've chosen Aldor or Scryer (that I know of) and that doesn't happen as soon as you land in OL.

In fact, what level DOES that happen at?

It IS a sound idea though.

You can make Shat your hearth before you have chosen either Aldor or Scryer. I took my druid out there at level 50 and made it his home.

All of my Alts(10-50) have Shattrath as their hearth, until you do the first quest to pick sides you can bind your hearthstone at aldor or scryer, you can pick scryer or aldor the moment you hit 60(?)

Personally I completely skipped over Nagrand on both of my 70s. I completely cleared out Hellfire, Zangarmarsh, and Terrokar, which took me to 67ish, and then I instanced and did some early Netherstorm quests to 70. I didn't even touch Nagrand except for a couple of chain quests which sent me there from other zones.

Ah, is nice.

My 62 Warr still hasn't been offered the Aldor Scryer choice. And I can't rem how I got it last time!

you'll have to talk to the guy sitting beneath A'Dal in the center of shatt and take the tour with his voidwalker before you get to choose.

Yeah, did that. I might be bugged I guess.

This is not entirely accurate. It's true that you can set your hearth in Shat at just about any level.

But I think you'll find the Scryers very unfriendly if you're Draenei and the Aldor quite irate if you're a Belf.

Just throwin at you some stuff I would have liked to know before hand... lol.

As a Drain Tanker I did find (as many people have said) that HFP is a rough spot. I went from doing 4-5 at a time to only gnawing at 1 mob at a time, and running if I got an add or 2, especially with the ganking out there. Demo will serve you well for the first 5 levels up there, but you will reach a point where Affliction becomes stronger at exp grinding again.

Now quest items... oh quest items. You'll find them all over. You'll also find some seemingly amazing drops from the instances in the begining of outlands. I suggest doing all the quests you can find. Just take note of some important things: a lot of these lowbie items are here to introduce you to new game mechanics (Spell Hit, Haste, Penetration, Crit as a few examples) and are not necessarily practical pre-70 in small doses. Remember to keep your primary stats in tune with the fact that you're still Grinding -- Sta is your friend and for now +Spell is your next best friend. The other stats wont hurt, just remember you don't need to sacrafice any good stats to trade for them yet.

Something nobody has seemed to touch on here but I'll throw it out. WORK on your Reputations!!! I grinded to 70 only getting high Rep in Hellfire and Nagrand... =( Oh the pain of getting Heroic Keyed that insued... You'll need rep for a LOT of benefits found in Outlands, including 2.4 PVP gear, profession recipes, and more quests!! Do not pass up chances to get rep, and if you can run an instance for exp/drops take it for the extra rep. This is one of the biggest regrets I had my first run up to 70.

Lastly a huge benefit to be found in dinging 58 is Outlands gear in general. Rare items are not always great just because they are Blue. The "of the Sorcerer" and "of the Evoker" gear are amazing sets for purecasters (depending on Specs) and I highly suggest you take a look at replacing any random slots that need upgrading. For accesories/weapons "of the Elder" works well too.

Get out there and get grinding!

Not sure what you are talking about, but you can set your hearth as soon as you can get to Shat. I know this as my level 19 twink has shatt set as home.

Went to the Outlands a couple days ago at level 59 and just dinged 61 last night. Things seem a little bit harder which is a nice change of pace, but I'm sure it will even out again as my gear improves.

Good stuff out here, really enjoying it so far. Some of my favorite things up to this point...
* Stepping through the gate: Big, mean, monsters; everywhere. Big. Mean.
* Quest rewards: Much better than what I was wearing.
* Bombing quests: Loved them. A bird and a bomb, life is good.
* Imps with 2 wing men: Found them amusing, like my drunk friends.
* Quest where you use the crystal to catch a green-eye-thing: Easily my favorite thing so far. I was with a buddy burning down huts when we noticed we had a quest to catch an eye and bring to back to the quest giver. Easy enough, we click and turn green, cool. A minute later we're yelling over TS, blaming each other for all the adds that nearly killed us.

And thanks for everyones tips/advice/whatever, it was very useful. The advice I'd like to give anyone reading this, about to enter Outlands...
* If you are Horde, set your Home Point in Swamp of Sorrows the first time you go. Easy to reach (wing rider > zepplin) Undercity, easy run to Outlands. Made adjusting easier, since I found I often didn't have what I needed, or wasn't where I wished to be.
