We made our first attempts on Vashj this week. We tried her 4 times before calling it. We did horrible the first two times better the third time then horrible again.

We got 2/4 shield generators the third time before the stalkers got us. The stalkers seem to be where the issue is. We have a warlock kiting, but he is having trouble keeping threat up, I'm throwing in frostbolts to help slow them down, but eventually one wanders away and starts fearing and it blows up. Any suggestions? Should I go full frost with points in perma frost to slow the stalkers down even more and have the ranged frost nova with the elemental? I'm raiding as 40/0/21 right now.

A few suggestions:

I am going to assume that the warlock is CoEx specced?

We used an elemental shaman to frostshock and kite them, worked well. Make sure that you have a good amount of nets (and let people know when you are going to use them).

full frost kiting works as well, although I just stayed on elementals.

Not sure what faction you are but if you are horde we found it incredibly easy to have a tauren warrior just tank the strider. They can get outside of the fearbox while tanking. And i think it is elixer of giant growth he uses which puts him even farther away from the mob. I do not know if this would work with any alliance tank classes or not.

I was always under the impression striders hit to hard for tanking.
We as well had Ele Shammy's do the kiting. Also had a boomkin do it once.
Even with all that it is very easy to climb on the agro tree of the strider.
If your close to taking agro I would suggest makin sure your pot shotting stray elementals, and send a few cast's off towards a naga.
This way your giving the kiter a little more time to get agro gain back, and your still helping the raid.

Other than that, make sure the Kiter is taking off salvation and any threat lower debuffs.

Good Luck.

They can be tanked fine as long as people arent running in and getting feared,
in which case they get quite a buff. But if it is held in one spot and tanked
and someone runs into them and gets feared you have whole different issues all together. The benefit to tanking is the threat factor and your casters can burn him down much faster, always before the next spawns. Kiting is the traditional way to do it though and if you go that route as Anobix said lots of nets helps, but everyone on top platform needs to be much more aware of where strider is if you are pulling him around the circle.

Went back into the old fraps files and found our first vashj kill. Made a video
of phase 2 and posted at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G8c6GgIGOK0

Mage pov on elementals, sorry so much panning but i keep checking behind me for elementals, but you can see how we do striders, actually the first one comes at the one minute mark and is tanked right behind me. You can see quite a bit of it.

Hope this helps.

Heavy Netherweave Net

We used those and the lock would stop for a sec and blast the hell out of it, gaining an aggro lead. Constantly using them really helped.
