Question: is expertise maxed with the http://wow.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?witem=34472;source=live ?

Cus in my stats it shows expertise 11/11 with the trinket ? Does that mean it frees up two points in weapon expertise when I'm going combat spec for raiding ? :)

If so, happy joyjoy. What should i put the 2 points in considering the cookie cutter raid combat spec ? :) Any ideas ? :)

No it does not cap it.

Reason being:

Weapon Expertise gives you 10 Expertise.

The Shard of Contempt gives you 44 Expertise rating.

That 44 Rating = about 11 Expertise.

So you have a total of 21 Expertise, which is not capped.

If you're human with sword/mace and spec for the expertise, using shard of contempt will cap your expertise so you won't get dodged.

21 expertise is 5.25% dodge reduction. This is technically not capped yet for bosses, where you need 23, but in reality adding any item with expertise will overshot the cap and waste itemization points (unless you plan on attacking from the front).
Remember, the CAP is not a value you have to reach - it is a value you should avoid going over...

So I consider talents + trinket as a practical expertise cap and look for other stats now (not that I have much choice, no free epics here...)

From elitistjerks:

Your base chance to be dodged by a raid boss with any attack is thought to be 6.5%. For each 3.94 expertise rating you equip, you gain 1 expertise, reducing your chance to be dodged by 0.25% (thus it takes exactly 15.77 expertise rating to reduce your chance to be dodged by 1%). Thus, we can calculate expertise caps for various combinations of talents and racial abilities:

0/2 Weapon Expertise, non-Human: 103
1/2 Weapon Expertise, non-Human: 83
2/2 Weapon Expertise, non-Human: 64
0/2 Weapon Expertise, Human (wielding swords or maces): 83
1/2 Weapon Expertise, Human: 64
2/2 Weapon Expertise, Human: 44

6.5%? For some reason I thought it was 5.6%. For 6.5% one needs 26 expertise, so there is in fact place for one more gear piece with exprertise before hitting the cap (for the non humans that is)

This is a KEY point to remember. The EJ list of caps is accurate to the math, but not adjusted for strategy.

A good rogue will almost always be behind the target in order to lower the mobs resistance to our attacks (mainly parry). The calculations for the caps are usually made within the context of standing toe-to-toe with the target (in so far as I am aware, please correct me if I'm wrong here).

Therefor, you can "get away with" less than the caps (especially for trash) if you strat accordingly.

The caps don't change numerically depending on where you stand, but some don't apply when you stand behind the mob. NPCs cannot parry from behind, so as long as you stand behind the mob, you don't have to have enough expertise to negate the parry chance. However, mobs can still dodge from behind just as well as from in front. So, you need 6.5% dodge reduction to never have an attack dodged from the front or back of a mob.
