No,you will not get exp if your pet kills a mob while you sit/drink/do nothing.
You must do some dmg to mob in order to get experience from it.

If you tap a mob by Wanding/DoTing/ or using direct dmg attacks your pet can finish it off and you will get experience, if you are in a group with a high level that's running you through an instance you can sit inside the instance portal and gain all the exp from kills as well as loot. And btw if your in an area where you can get experience I highly doubt you can go eat with your pet on aggressive, he will die quickly to yellow mobs or last a little longer against green mobs, like 2-3 yellow level mobs, 4-5 green level mobs, then once he dies the mob comes after you and you die.

I rarely set my summons to aggressive, unless in a low lvl area where he can 1-2 hit kill mobs. I usually keep him on defensive or passive, depending on where I am. If you keep them on aggressive, you may end up with too much agro to handle.

Aggressive for PvP with FG is fantastic.

Ah yes... pvp would be the only place I'd really set a summon to aggressive.

I've used aggressive to good effect in the epic mount quest in Dire Maul. When the imps and felguards start attacking, enslave the nearest felguard and set it on aggressive. When Enslave wears off, just grab another and set that one on aggressive. Rinse and repeat.
