BG healing...Follow

Just wanted to share my experiences as a fledgling BG healing type.
Finally got off my lazy **** and leveled my Druid to 70, picked up a few pieces of the blue PvP reputation gear, and respeced Restokin.

After reading numerous posts on these forums as how to proceed, I plunged into the high intensity world of healing battlegrounds, and found myself really enjoying the change of pace.

I have noticed that I am now focus fire priority target number one ( hey guys, I'm just here in the background, tossing a few HoTs, you really don't see me, right?) sadly, as a healer, I die...ALOT. That fact has not diminished the enjoyment I have experienced, however.

Going from Feral, and on my other mains, Mage and Warrior, to a fairly decent healer is really a first for me. Coming in 3rd on healing done was surprising, however, as my gear is not great, nor am I a experienced healer. I expect that if I continue on, I might even get second, or possibly first in some BGs.

I did learn to hang back, follow some heavy hitting types, and just try to look innocent; with limited success.

How do you other BG healers manage? Just out of curiosities sake.

I specced restokin for kicks one day. Some things I found out:

Moonkin form = +500% Aggro in BGs XD
If you're NELF, Shadowmeld+drink is your friend
If you travel in a group as kitty, you're less likely to get targeted right off the bat
Do HOT's on yourself before entering an area with lots of enemies(dead=0 healing)

as cool as restokin is, i could never personally get behind it. i find full-on resto (either tree-pvp or arena spec) to be more suited to my playstyle.

the cardinal rule of druid healing in bgs is "stick and move". toss HoT's, then move, then toss some more, then move again. if physical dps is on you, go bear. let your allies know that if they see you in bear they had better get whatever is on you off of you or else they wont get heals.

Thanks for the responses.

Quor, I did try to maintain movement while tossing heals left and right, however, it seemed to attract Rogues like women to chocolate. I also did the shift to bear trick, again, with limited successful results, as without my Feral gear, my stamina is lacking.

I realize with better PvP gear ( re: resilience) that I might get more survivability, and stamina.

jeffoncon, that is a great idea, HoTing myself before I get engaged in combat situations, being the dork that I am, didn't even cross my mind.

As for choosing Restokin, I still like being able to toss out a bit of damage, if the opportunity arises.

resilience does make a huge difference yes, but the best thing you can do before then is toss on your tanking weapon. the difference between a bear with earthwarden on and a bear without one is quite significant. it can be a bit of a hassle doing it sometimes, but you can make life a bit easier by making a taunt/equip earthwarden macro (since taunt does nothing in pvp) and a rejuv (or whatever)+healing weapon combo.

or just do what i do and have them set as individual hotkeys that you just click on a sidebar. either will work, and theyll improve your effectiveness as a pvp healer immensely.

obviously theres no need for the extra armor if there is no physical dps on you, but as you noted you attract rogues like flies to honey, so this should help a great deal. also, think about mixing in some of your feral gear in the slots where you have not-so-great pvp healing gear. going pve healing in some slots is nice in some cases, or once youre used to the druid pvp healing playstyle, but you can also get a lot of mileage out of using your feral tank gear in slots where your pvp gear is weaker. thisll give you extra tankage in pvp, and if the rogues are on you, then theyre not damaging other people, and you cant heal anyway, so may as well mitigate as much as you can right?

of course, if there isnt much in the way of physical dps on the other team then you neednt worry about doing this, but its another trick you can use to ease your way into the pvp druidicness.

As odd (sad?) as it sounds, I almost always heal in BGs regardless of spec. I leveled feral, but kept a healing set up to date. I'd heal AV (especially in the lower end of the brackets) and routinely be in the top 4 overall.

I'm a raiding tree now, so I still heal. I find tree form has it's advantages and disadvantages. Two main drawbacks - you WILL be targeted first and foremost. And you CAN be banished by locks (thankfully many locks don't realize this, stupid locks).

The big advantage is that you will be protected by your teammates. Tree is the most obvious indicator of healing around and if they want to stay alive themselves, they'll do their best to keep you up as well. During the pre-game part, I always shift to tree form so folks can see and (hopefully) mark me as someone to protect.

I run around alot and look like I'm doing something other than healing.
I make myself hard to target and hide behind things if I can all while throwing my HOT's. I seldom if ever will stand still and cast anything.
If it looks safe I'll toss a regrowth in and if need be toss a cyclone in on another healer.
You have the right idea about sticking with a heavy hitter.
Be their personal pocket healer and you might survive longer but sadly enough get use to dieing a lot or learning how to escape ;)
AV is my favorite BG to heal in. I can almost always be in the top 5 if not 3 in healing and all with a meager 1000+heal and only 3 pcs of pvp gear.
