Possible suggestion for warrior fixFollow

#1 May 16 2008 at 11:42 AM Rating: Default
My brother has a rather solid protection spec'd warrior, in fact, he's too solid - he has issues gathering rage due to mobs not being able to penetrate his defenses.

We were discussing this issue today and came up with a pretty solid solution - since warriors can currently get rage from shield blocks, why not add parries and dodges as rage building items too?

Additionally, how's about also creating aggro whenever a warrior blocks/parries/dodges a blow as after all, a mob is going to get angry that it can't hit the warrior.

Just a suggestion to pass around and/or lobby for if you guys think its a good one (my tank toon is a feral druid).

If you're brother is not completely overgeared, popping Berserker Rage at the beginning of a pull may help out a bit. I've been doing a lot of "Berserker Stance, Throw (pull), Berserker Rage, Defensive Stance" to start fights. Seems to help a ton with that initial rage generation, especially in lower instances.

If he's completely overgeared, maybe he should toss on some DPS/fury gear. He'd deal *and* take more dmg = more rage.

Not a bad idea.

My suggestion: Make taunt a range ability!

My spidey sense is tingling and telling me that if they were to implement the bonus threat from dodge/parry, then getting hit successfully would in turn shed some threat; since it stands to reason that if not being able to hit its target pisses it off, then hitting its target would satiate it.

A nice idea, but I think it would open a whole 'nother can of worms.

The added rage from parry and/or dodge is a good idea though. I think they'd add it to parry only, realistically, which would work fine.

As far as alleviating your brother's problems, have him toss some DPS type gear on to "bring down" his defenses a bit if he's having rage issues. He'll have enough rage, still have all the defenses he needs, and be killing a bit faster to boot.

And just more threat gear in general. I've never encountered this inability to tank things via overgearing. In fact in most cases it makes my life easier, I just have to know how to shift my gear around. Block sets with the shield spikes that devious mentioned, for example. If he's not taking damage, then he should shift away from gear that's going to cause him to get hurt less, and wear more gear that will allow him to hold agro.

I was going to level as proc. Read good things on it. Tanking multi mobs. Slow kills but good survivability. At level 12 I could fight 5 Gnolls at once and slowly but assuredly kill them all. What I had a problem with is yes rage. Like the Op said. I had to rely on my auto attack and by the time I had decent rage to actually do anything the mob was almost dead.

I'd use the rage on the next mob. Loved the defense. Little by litte they'd chip away at me. But in the end I had to change. Not enough info for leveling as proc in the threads. All the faqs are for end game and raiding. Wish there was a seperate thread for up and coming players. I have read each faq solidly and I still get confused at times. Currently 15, have full raider's set of the bear and Gleaming claymore of the bear with minor impact enchant.

....just can't stop thinking about my sword and board. Did I chose the wrong path...

You'll level much faster as 2h fury than you ever will as protection.

Not to mention a lot of the same things that will give 2h fury problems will give prot problems.

Just stick with your "DPS gear" and 2-hander and switch to prot maybe when you get to 60 to start tanking Ramparts.

Thanks for the advice Big. Currently looking into the 20/41/0 build. Only question I have is, I get told that MS is really good. I hate heroic strike. Slow and missed about 50% of the time. Anything gonna replace it soon. Level 16 almost 17 now. Also by looking at the arms tree is 2h specialization, No points into that?

Edit: Also is there some really good low level macro's that I can combine charge with HS, And Dem Sht with TC. Sunder armour I rarily use. Am I wrong?

Mortal Strike isn't any more accurate than Heroic Strike. It's most effective in a PVP setting where the healing debuff is very powerful. It's a great ability, but it's not completely overpowered in a PVE setting.

You'll get Slam at level 30. Leveling does get easier, you just have to get through the early dry spell.

If you don't have enough rage while tanking take your pants off. Problem fixed.

I'll do that. Level 18 now and have full Raider's set of the bear. I find myself underestimating my warrior. I played a paladin to level 30 and just couldn't do it. No ranged and well when I charged into battle I'd use up all my mana and then die. lol So I had began to look at warrior. Damage is crazy. I crit almost every 3 hit or so. Sometimes I kill a mob in 2 swings or 3. So crazy.

Any Idea on some macro's or were to look for some. I've got a bit of a problem with my action bar being filled up and don't like clicking on them. One button and watch the fireworks. Thanks ^^

If you're talking about 70 instances, just start trading in Fury gear. When our MT runs normal instances for whatever reason, he tanks in full Fury gear. Not only is he able to hold aggro well, but he also puts out some incredible damage. I can't recall which boss it was, but one one of them he managed to break 1900dps O_o

Wow. Hopefully with enough practice and the right gear I can hit that and maybe more. Time will tell.

sword + board = tanking

DW or 2H = solo

The only times I ran solo with a sword + board are when taking out multiple mobs that are higher level than me (especially multiple casters prior to getting Pummel).
