You can live without Fanaticism and most Ret Pallies do. 20/41 seems to be the standard-issue high-level PvP build (for Stoicism/Imp. HoJ over in Prot).

Yeah, you can take the 2 points out of Eye for an Eye. The talent is nice and all, but Stoicism for the stun resist is even better. Since so many teams rely on stuns to lock people out, you'll probably use that more than Eye for an Eye.

Or you can take it out of Crusade if you want, 2% less outgoing damage which isn't too much... it's up to you. But one or the other.

I'm going to hijack the thread a bit.

What makes Retadins the optimal counter-class to Druids in arena?

JoJ and the offensive role to actually keep it on them. Its actually pretty huge. try meleeing one without JoJ, even with easily reapplied snares, its tough and they still get away.

Also have the ability to stun and burst while the druid is in cat/caster form.

They are the only class who can keep a resto druid (or shaman) at normal run speed continually, through judgement of justice. Other classes have slowing effects (hamstring etc.) which is canceled by switching forms, holy paladins can do the judgement but have trouble keeping it up due to the need to stop and heal, so if they druid stays alive for until it wears off (not hard with hots + bear form) he can still get away.

Unfortunately, Shaman do not shed movement-impairing effects on shift, so this really applies only to Druids. Not that JoJ isn't just as effective on Shaman (much to my chagrin), but any class that snares can keep us that way just as easily as Paladins.

As far as Druids go... Retadins are really, really overrated as a counter IMO. Yes, JoJ is awesome against them, but it loses a lot of its charm when they root and CC you through most of its duration and you still simply can not kill them on your own. They can HoT themselves up, go Bear, Frenzied Regeneration, and there's not a whole lot you can do about it. (When I think of a counter I tend to visualize one-on-one effectiveness, but we may just be arguing semantics at this point. /shrug) What JoJ + an opportune HoJ will do is give a Ret Paladin and (hopefully) his DPS accomplices the opportunity they need to burn the Druid down together. Think of a Retadin more like... an anti-Druid suppliment.

/agreed.

there is no class that can "handle" a resto druid. this is why 2000+ 2v2 is cluttered with them. a ret pally can occupy a druid for some time, but taking one down requires outside help. JoJ on druid thus become a moot point, since the assisting dpser will have a stun/snare of their own as well.

I am not in 2000s, But Retadins can be powerful under the right team. Very oftenly when fighting a druid healer team, I JoJ and whack him with Windfury from my Shaman partner (2v2). And if he needs to heal I immedietly lock him out. six seconds or so for hits and a judgement. A good string of crits (in my **** poor gear) can usually wipe a druid from 63~ish percent to nothing.
