Real question for all ShamanFollow

Yeah actually that is what I meant sort of.

Have you fought a PvE enemy and said ok let me see what attack type does the most damage, start off with LS(not sure damage) then hit a FS(797 total not augmented) auto attack, SS, ES auto, ES =total damage or swings-(such as doing this tactic you killed monster in 7-8 hits

Then doing it again vs same level and type monster using LS, ES(692) auto, ES auto FS etc and killing it in 10-12 hits which means that x is the faster way to kill monster, type of thing.

If so what is your basic attack stategy in PvE and PvP? Do you find that dropping a searing totem is better than dropping nova at the beginning of fight and kills faster.

I guess basically what is your attack pattern you feel is most comfortable? Drop w,x,y,z totems then LS, etc or LS then drop x,y totems engage drop z,w totems etc.

Also what I meant by the totems is that I read somewhere, Elitist I think, that some totems get spell increases by intel also. Is this true?

Nevermind I found it, it was WoWWiki. It was about Mental Quickness making using totems use less mana as well since they are instant.

So you're asking if we've done any research/experimentation on our attack rotations. Yes, absolutely.

As far as single targets go, any fire totem is pretty much a waste. Outside of instance bosses and raid trash/bosses, most things just aren't going to live long enough to justify the DPM (damage per mana). Magma Totem and Fire Nova Totem both, likewise, are simply not worth the mana on single mobs, but they are situationally useful in multi-mob pulls.

In instance/raid parties, you will almost never use fire totems outside of bosses. Intance trash simply won't be alive long enough, and while raid trash might, your fire totems can and frequently will break CC, and thus are usually a bad idea.

Earth, wind, and water totems should be down nearly 100% of the time any time you're in a group. If you're not making it a point to consistently lay buffing totems, you're a failure as a Shaman. Plain and simple. What totems you lay and when depends on group make-up, mobs, and situations. For the most part it's pretty obvious, so just use your own judgement based on what you know of the game.

Unless you need to remove poison or break fear or something, no totems when questing/grinding on single mobs. Waste of mana. Auto-attack, keep Stormstrike on cooldown, Flame Shock if the mob will live long enough for the DoT to run its course, Earth Shock otherwise. Switch Shocks as needed if you need snares/interrupts. Again, a lot of this is pretty obvious stuff... Just use your common sense and make use of the tools the class has.

Totems get zero benefit from intellect. However, several totems get bonuses from +spell damage (fire totems) or +healing (Healing Stream).
