Resto Druids: How much do you value leather over cloth?Follow

Let me start off by saying that I'm a feral druid. I leveled 10-70 as feral and loved every minute of it. The thing is, I've got a warrior tank and a rogue, so I've always been tempted to go resto, I've just never had the gear to do it.

While I was leveling, I always tried to save gear for healing and damage sets, but I never prioritized those sets over my feral set. I've been running Kara for the past 2 months or so, but I have had absolutely no luck with tanking drops. However, last night I was able to pick up 4 more resto pieces (3 cloth). I know Priests and Resto Druids use pretty much prioritize the same stats, so I don't think this is much of an issue. Is there any reason to pass on cloth healing pieces to wait for the leather to drop, or should I just take it if it's an upgrade? If I went resto, it'd be for pure PvE raid/instance healing.

I logged out in my healing set so you guys can take a look. Obviously I need some upgrades (i.e. gloves, belt, rings, trinket, weapon), but I want to be able to try it out before I invest too much gold/badges/chants on gear for a spec that I don't even know if I'll like.

Thanks in advance,
Camel

If it is an upgrade, then you "need" it just as much as a priest that "needs" it.
Our best druid healers still use some cloth gear, and wouldn't think twice to swap a great leather piece for an even better cloth upgrade. The difference in cloth to leather for a healer should be a very last concern if the stats are better. Besides, healers shouldn't be taking hits.

I'm a full balance druid and I use cloth pieces. If its better stats I'll use it.

Pick up what you can, but replace it with leather whenever you get a chance.

I don't like cloth because I can't just fade or bubble when something comes after me, and when I die, the rest of the party will usually too.

It's a little bit different in a raid setting I guess. Most of the time you're perfectly safe wearing cloth, and chances are that you'll get away with 2 blessings anway, BoW and BoS, so getting aggro should be next to impossible. Nightbane would be an exception though, where every bit of armor helps when you end up being targeted by his Smoking Blast (competing with a pally's threat -or lack thereof- makes me being the victim pretty much all the time)

As the others have said use whatever is the better piece for you. I have never heard a "you are a druid, you can't lot on that cloth piece of healing gear".

I use a few cloth pieces that are far better than any leather piece available. For the most part if you manage to have a mob or two hitting you in an instance/raid the added armor will make zero difference. If the mob wants you dead you will probably die regardless.

I don't roll for cloth against a priest, that would be unfair in my opinion since that's all they can use. I'd strangle a resto shaman or holy pally rolling for leather against me.

That being said, if no one rolls on it, the I'll grab it for sure. When you're in a raid or running an heroic, the difference in armor isn't going to save you anyway.

Thanks for all the responses guys. That's pretty much what I was thinking, but I've been wrong before, so I just figured I'd ask :)

Rolling on cloth if it is an upgrade is alright only as long as there is no similar leather upgrade available in the same range of instancing/raiding.
