Noob Enters KaraFollow

#1 May 14 2008 at 4:59 AM Rating: Decent
I need to be a better player. =P

I've only done about about 6 dungeons, all 5 man. Last night Kara was my first 10-man raid.

My friend told me to come while I was changing my hotkeys (remember I was having dexterity/execution concerns), and also setting up ventrilo (i've never owned a mic and can barely navigate the program interface).

By the time I enter, they are fully buffed and waiting at the first pull, and I didn't have vent running right. I immediately cast SoC by key-habit, and we wiped. No big deal, they know I'm new, and it's right at the entrance.

[Skip inept dps on my part for 2 hours - another thread on DPSing for me]

Now we're at Aran. My vent is working, they break down the fight, and speak "DON'T MOVE" when flame wreath readies. I made it through the first. The next was "DON'T MOVE..AND ELEMENTALS" so I turned by habit to look for adds. Wipe.

Then we wiped because another first timer moved. Then we won with 1 member standing.

I came away with Nethershard Girdle from Moroes, and the Trisfall Wand from Aran. I was very grateful for the group being patient. We also had 3 locks, so I got a chance to watch and learn.

LMAO. If affliction, just remember to keep all your DoTs up (it's difficult). This includes immolate. Start by keeping your DoTs up on 1 target... when you can do that, tab to the 2nd kill target (which should be being tanked as well) and put a few DoTs on it as well, then switch back to the primary target and resume DoTting. You will do your best dps that way. Make sure your gear is decently gemmed (if you have any), make sure your spec is decent.

Those 3 things will get you through kara. SoC only on non-elite groups... after a mage frost novas, preferably. ;-)

Happy hunting!

This is how I hope to pop my level 70 raid cherry. Lots of mistakes, slight frustration, lots of patience and being guided by someone who knows the drill.

I love it when I run a tough instance with a team that knows the drill. Grats on your entry. Can you link your Armory profile? I'd like to compare with mine so I know where I'm standing.

Here it is.

He mentioned it in this earlier thread.

His gear is pretty solid with the exception of his healing trinket. There's a group quest in the far east of Netherstorm (Ethereum guys) to kill a massive Ooze (drop quest), which rewards a nice Spell Hit trinket, which I would recommend.

Ah, excellent!

I'm still a long way from Karazhan, but I figured I'd start out with some heroics once I have the spell damage and hit rating.

Thanks for the tip on the trinket in Netherstorm, I'll see if I can get it before we continue with Kara tonight.

I'm saving badges and honor to replace some rings/wrist/boots (green).

I was lucky to be with a group that knew the drill and was patient enough to explain the pulls and fights for the noob, and offering supportive criticism. I go into events openly admitting my ignorance, and people seem to be receptive to it.

Now I have a better feel for when to land my first DoT, and will continue to work on dotting more efficiently. I'm thinking my rotation will be:

CoA, Corruption, UA, (immolate and SL on harder mobs), Boltspam.

Yes there is - but I am fooked if I can find where the hell it starts!!!

Help?

Look up "The Horrors of Pollution," apparently its a quest that begins from a dropped item in the area. The Alla listing has it as a Horde quest but replies indicate its available for Alliance too.

Oh, and tonight I try to finish Kara for the first time. We cleared Aran night before last, and I'm hoping to be geared well enough to do some dps to the prince, and maybe come away with some more upgrades. I think T4 tokens drop for gloves and head.

Nice, cheers, Veritan.

I've spent loads of time in that area doing the chain qs and never had an item drop that starts a q. Back to farming then.

Coincidentally, I find it stupid that to get the Shattered Halls key quest you have to travel to the Black Temple area and kill a bloody blacksmith. FOund that out completely by fluke last night!

Yeah, I think the mobs that drop it are Elites. I use Wowhead for quest info, I like the format.

Incidentally, what's your spell hit at Inoperante?
#12 May 15 2008 at 7:02 AM Rating: Decent
It's at a **** poor 65 as I had been farming +dam - but I'm in the process of farming improvements. I have a list and everything ;)

Armory Link

I've looked it up on WoWHead - it's what I use too.

It's not the clearest what you have to do, but I'll figure it out!

Cheers

From what I gather (click on the quest item to see the mob that drops it and where he spawns), kill the ooze, get the item, use it to initiate a quest, deliver the item to the NPC, get loot.

You're over double my spell hit, but I'm working on it. I didn't have much trouble with DoTs on Kara bosses through Aran (Suppression), it was the SB spams that gave me trouble.

Last time I was in Kara my +hit was 50. I got resisted maybe 20% of the time. Maybe slightly less. Either way - too much, and yeah, it was on SBs. DoTs landed ok.

The trouble I have with this Q is that I can and have seen the mob...but I've never been allowed to attack it?!

Go to the Ethereum Staging Grounds in Netherstorm, and he (Congealed Void Horror) should be at the bottom near the cliff's edge, there is a single boulder that seems ideal for fighting.

Apparently he was buffed for me, I tried last night. I don't have a flying mount to pull him away for the unbuff trick. I couldn't channel health to my VW fast enough.

I'll have another go this weekend. I keep getting told I can't attack the target, that's the trouble. Maybe I'm picking on the wrong target, there are two.

And I got the flier so my FG should be ok tanking the crap out of him while I CoW/Corr/Health Funnel :o)
