before you guys flame me...
I think this is a legit question :P

The guild I'm in is finally starting to progress in SSC, (Hydross / Lurker one shotted, and Tidewalker downed in 2 or 3 tries, workingon the other bosses... (which are all big steps for our casual guild)

I'm doing some research on tanking in general so I was looking at some other guilds WWS charts and noticed that the tanks were doing ~380 DPS.

typically I am personally at about 240 / 250 DPS.
I have three armor sets in my item rack that mix different pieces in: threat, Stam and dodge.

i typically still see about 250 DPS.

should i be doing more DPS tanking?
is it something to worry about and or improve on?

i follow the tanking rotation pretty rigorously (SS, rev, dev / dev) and utilize trinkets where ever i can.

thoughts?

if you're maintanking or otherwise have extra rage, HS spam would account for the extra damage. otherwise you really wouldn't be able to make up for the difference unless you dual wield devastate, which you shouldn't be doing when maintanking anyway. link your armory so we can take a look at your SBV, expertise, hit and weapon damage from your mainhand.

I use HS when the rage allows... and I never DW while tanking (thats silly) :P

Seeing those tank DPS numbers just surprised me is all, and its honestly something i never looked at, or paid attention to.

this set i logged out in is my all purpose tank gear, i have 2 bags full of crap that i swap out (T4 pieces, ZA pieces, etc...)

i like your tanking set man, you look very survivable. your offensive stats look good for the gear you're sporting. my tanking set is not quite as good as yours (fury main spec ftw), but i usually can also get around 250 dps when maintanking something. my only other suggestion would be to be more aggressive with weaving HS into your rotation. instead of just doing HS HS HS HS HS when you hit >50 rage or w/e, when shield slam and revenge are on cd, do HS+dev, HS+rev, HS+shield slam, HS+shield block, HS+refresh shout, HS+tclap, you get the idea. since you're getting a lot of rage when maintanking, you should be able to get away with this kind of rotation and see a significant increase to your personal DPS/TPS.

thats a good idea, i weave in HS, but i usually dont spam the everloving hell out of it.
my TPS hovers between (according to Omen) 800 to 1000.

but i guess the "real" question would be, does a tanks DPS actually matter while main tanking?

is it a stat thats worth it to actually pay attention too?

More damage done by the tank translates into more threat, so it is something that is worth looking at. However, doing double damage does not give double threat, since the bonus threat of some abilities is fixed and not based on damage done.

right. more dps essentially = more TPS. since your guild has progressed to the point that it has though, i don't think your TPS is lackluster.

Also, HS generates a lot of threat.
