Thinking of respecing...Follow

#1 May 12 2008 at 5:34 PM Rating: Decent
Since I first started my lock, I've been aiming for being a demo lock. I mostly play solo and the Felguard is just very helpful to me. He's pretty much the only summon I use, but... I'm thinking I should respec.

Right now, I'm in a group running through The Arcatraz and he's dyeing at about every other mob.

Any thoughts on what I should be doing with my summons? I really don't have much of instance experience, but I want to be more useful some how.

I'd prefer to just get tips on how to be demo lock more effectively, since I've seen a few videos of them soloing a fel reaver, but I'm open to any suggestions.

Turn cleave off and only attack the target the tank is, learn to pull him outa AoEs and when its safe to send him back in

How do I disable cleave? And how would disabling it be helpful?

Find cleave on the pet bar and right click on it.

As for why it would be helpful most likely what is happening is your cleave is hitting a CCed mob and thus you FG is being beaten on by that mob and dying from it. Another important thing is to make sure you turn off anguish as having it on only makes things harder for the tank.

Ah ok. That makes sense. And thank you for telling me how to disable those skills.

I'm betting new gear would help out a lot too.

Yes I would definately suggest getting new gear. Since you are a tailor you should try to get Frozen shadow weave as soon as possible. You can also go for the spell strike set.

But rather then just looking at specific pieces I think it would help to say what stats would help. If you plan on raiding then you need spell hit first and foremost, then you can start picking up +dmg, haste, and crit.

Is the Frozen Shadow weave set the ideal/best gear for a demo lock? I've managed to make the shoulders and working on more shadow weave, to make the rest of the set.

FSW is amazing as long as you never ever want to raid as fire until T5

I eventually plan to do raids.

Honestly, I don't really get a whole lot of time to play WoW, since I don't technically own my own. But when I do get to play, it's usually solo, so I'm not knowledgeable with anything involving groups, like raids or even lvl 70 instances. The only lvl 70 thing I've done so far, was something in Tempest Keep, with my guild. Luckily, since I was with my guild, one of them were giving me tips with my lock. Due to my solo play, I'm usually always using my felgaurd. They suggested I use succubus at some points, which I'd honestly never used before.

I love my lock, but I'm thinking maybe a demo lock wasn't the right choice as a first time character. They seem rather complex, needing to know what summon to use and when, when in groups and in different instances.

If you look at pets as a "buff with a HP bar" it is a little easier to determine which pet is right. Generally speaking, your options in a raid are pretty slim, Imp for the HP buff or Felguard for the dps. For 5-mans it's about the same but you throw in the Succubus for crowd control as an option. There has been no reason that I have found since I got my succubus to ever summon my voidwalker, in fact I can honestly say that with my last lock I didnt even do the voidwalker quest until after level 60.
Felhound is generally a pvp pet, but it fills the roll of caster CC occasionally.

Personally I prefer Affliction or Destruction over demonology, and I will avoid putting more than the 21 points I need for Demonic Sacrifice (0/21/40 raid build) at all costs.
dont be afraid to experiment with builds. There are countless resources that are available to teach you everything you need to know about different builds and the different ways you can modify them to suit your play style.

My current build is 6/44/11. I think I got that build from a spec that took a fel reaver solo, which I read from this forum. I figured if that build can take down possibly the strongest single mob not in an instant/raid (if I'm wrong about that, feel free to correct me), it'd be the ideal solo build.

I encountered something I wasn't too happy about the build though. Over in Skettis, their are quests to take down ghost-like mobs, which you need to drink a potion to see/kill. However, it seems that any summon I use, the summon can't do anything vs them, which makes the quests very difficult as a demo lock. Is their any way I can get the summon to kill those ghost-like mobs?

That warlock was most likely T6 or had over 18k health cause those Fel Reavers are like a /train

If you search youtube, you could find a few different demolock spec'd warlocks soloing a fel reaver. Keywords to search for are obvious... fel reaver, warlock, demonology, felguard...

I wish they specified what exact spec and gear they used.

Imp = Stamina Buff, Mini-Thorns(Fire Shield), viable DPS (only in a gatling Imp build), invisible until attacks
Voidwalker = Soloists Tank, Damage Shield, Melee Debuffer
Succubus = Single target CC, Highest non-felguard spec'd DPS pet, invisible until attacks.
Felhunter = Magic Debuff(friendly)/Buff(Enemy) dispel, Paranoia (Stealth Detection, Rogues/Druids), Spell Lock (Silence)
Felguard = Highest DPS, Intercept (Interrupt on a Cooldown), Cleave.

There's no way an FSW-wearing 'lock can take down a Fel Reaver as any spec. Believe me, I tried. I tried with a Pala healer. Still died. I tried with a DPS partner and Pala healer. Still died.

In the end, I pulled the bastid to the Caravan outside Thrallmar and took him down there...solo.
