Grind Honor at 69 or 70?Follow

I've just hit level 68, and I am trying to get set up for life post 70. The first thing I want to do is grind honor to get the S2 swords once they become available for honor. Should I do this at level 69 where I can be very competitive, or should I ding 70 and grind against people better geared than me?

Also, I'm planning to respec to a better pvp build (currently combat swords.) Given that I will also need to do a bunch of rep grinding, what would be a reasonable build for pvp that would still be effective for grinding - I'm currently thinking a hemo/combat hybrid, but I've never played anything other than a combat sword rogue. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Eventually the goal is to raid and to respec back to combat swords.

Combat (often maces) can do just fine in BGs (I did my honor grind as combat swords then fists), but deep sub seems to be becoming the preferred build. There are a ton of ShS rogues on my server now-a-days. You'll slow down a bit when questing, but the ones I've talked to said it was worth it for the survivability in BGs.

Really, there is no build that is perfect for both. Two different worlds with different requirements.

If your goal is to raid, I'd say just go with the s2 weapons and keep doing instances for everything else.

Just an opinion of course.

Good luck and happy hunting!

There is absolutely no reason to wait until 69 or 70. In fact, just doing the daily pays off since you'll be getting some XP along with the honor points and tokens.

I can only speak for my BG, but the further you move up in the brackets, the more people are spread out level-wise. I started going at like 65 and still found something to kill (the beauty of stealth). AV is where the honor is, and it IS rough at level 68. But it would be just as bad at 69 or even 70 without decent gear. You'll always be of more use than those people who just go AFK, so it's all a matter of having realistic expectations about what you might possibly get accomplished.

I'm currently doing my BGs while being queued up for Sethekk. This will make sure that I'll end up honored with LC by the time I hit 70, allowing me to just buy the Opportunist's stuff for some added survivability until I get to replace it with whatever season Gladiator gear. LC is the only faction where you don't have enough quests to get straight to honored, so you might as well start early with your rep grind there. I'm on double xp all the way to 70 now, which seems good enough of a reason to even bother with normal mode instances.

At 69 you're the top level in WSG, Arathi Basin and Eye of the Storm but you're put in the same bracket for AV as all the 70s. AV tends to give me the most honor/hour and to be even slightly competitive, you really need that last level because the gear is so much better at 70, you've got that last talent, and there's a penalty for 69 vs 70. Oh and you get more honor for the daily quests.

Arenas are another reason to go for that last 700,000+ xp.

Here's another... Theo's PVP guide. Its biggest application is arenas but it can be read as working for any pvp encounter.

Go for 70. In gearing, you go for max honor/hour. If you can premade at 69, then maybe I'd do it, but generally I prefer doing premades at 70, as they yield way more honor.

Even if you get steamrolled in AV, it's more honor than you'd get in the 60-69 AV.

Unless your faction wins every game at 60-69 and loses every 70 match, but that's a pretty rare case; not many BGs are like that.

Theo... AV is the big exception, with the brackets being 51-60 and 61-70.

The other thing to really consider is the tokens you need in addition to the honor points. Depending on your Battlegroup, getting the 40 EoTS tokens for just the weapons might take longer than coming up with the honor. I remember having to do 30+ matches to buy Vindicator's boots for my crit-chicken... Really better to start early.

At level 68 btw it's 12K XP for the daily BG (don't remember how much bonus honor) so about the same XP as for any other quest you'd be doing at that level.

I'm not sure it really makes much difference in the actual honor output, but it may make a difference in fun of gameplay.

A fresh lvl 70 is going to be facing enemies decked out in Resilience staced arena gear. You aren't going to be getting many KBs, especially as an undergeared rogue. If you want to dominate the battlefield, you're probably better off staying at 69.

All that being said, hit one AV bonus weekend hardcore and you'll earn enough honor for those S1 swords you're eyeing. I earned 13k honor yesterday alone doing AVs during the bonus period. Win or lose, you can get anywhere from 800-2k honor per hour in Av during bonus weekends. That doesn't take long to get you the 27k honor needed for the pair of S1 swords.

My advice is to not specifically avoid leveling unless you are really enjoying the BGs (and assuming the queue times aren't bad). At worst, if your battlegroup does well in the 69 bracket, stay at 69 long enough to get the 40 EoTS tokens you'll need.

Just personally i went mutilate/sub (42/0/19) at 69 and grinded the honor for my PVP trinket and S1 swords. 69 was a lot of fun compared to when i became a new 70. even with the res gear i had (the blue n00b pvp pieces), which put me around 150res to start and within a week i was at 200, i was still lacking a lot in hp and AP.
however, being slightly undergeared in the 69 bracket, i was still putting out DPS in the top 2-3 of a battleground, and it felt like skill actually mattered. it was a lot of fun.
i think you should stay and definately grind some honor. if you can use S1 or S2 swords the moment you hit 70 that would be great as the swords will give you nearly a 50% increase in DPS over most of the options you have readily available to you (or any of the S1 or S2 weapons).

Right, I remember now. It'd been a while since I leveled my last alt to 70.

Mind pointing out a better pair of pre-raid 70 tanking shoulders?
Hint: You won't find any.

You mean like these?
Nexus Guard Pauldrons
Warchief's Mantle

Either are very common shoulders for getting into Kara for either Warriors or Pallies. Avoidance, daddio. It's like gold. ;)

Start getting your tokens before hitting 70, then start hanging out in AV until you got the honor points as well. AV is big enough to blend in even with crappy PvE gear, which is not exactly an option in Level 70 EoTS or WSG or whatever with only 10 or 15 players per team.

Make it a token grind rather than a honor grind. In fact, since everybody is equally crappy geared, this whole thing is actually quite entertaining. Where would be the fun in a 70 BG, where pretty much everybody is wearing S1 or better now, while you're still stuck with quest rewards?

You're getting significantly more honor in the level 70 BGs, but it's still just one token for a loss, and 3 for a win. Very little is more frustrating than having enough honor points to buy whatever item you want, but missing the marks that go along with it.

If you figure 3 BGs per hour, you'll end up spending some significant time on gathering tokens, especially if your faction sucks in your Battlegroup. If you add up all the tokens needed for a full S1/S2 set, you'll quickly find out that honor points are not quite the thing you should be worried about.

50 EoTS for weapons (incl War Edge)
40 AB for belt
40 EoTS for boots
20 WSG for bracers

20 AV for gloves
30 WSG for pants
30 AV for helmet
20 AB for shoulders
30 AB for chest

for a total of

90 AB
50 AV
90 EoTS
50 WSG

This doesn't even include neck and rings or trinket(s)

Yeah, that'd be great if we were talking about warriors or paladins.

But from all the time I talk to my brother about feral druiding (yes, that's a new verb), I can tell you right now, he just about cried when he got his feral staff and his S3 shoulders, because they're the best in-slot outside of Sunwell or very late BT.

I'd link his armory, but he's in PvP gear atm. Smiley: tongue
