Help Me Understand Strength vs. Attack PowerFollow

#1 May 12 2008 at 1:38 PM Rating: Decent
I really don't understand the difference in except for a ratio I've read of 2 AP = 1 Strength. There has to be more of a difference than that, I just don't see it. Do they act in different was besides just a math equation?

For instance, I'm playing a Ret Paladin and am looking for the best stats on items. I read that +AP is wonderful, mixed with Sanctity Aura and, perhaps, the across the board benefit of Kings boost of 10%. In such a case, a paladin, what is the difference between a +12 AP and a +6 Strength, for example, on benefits?

Thanks so much for helping me get this.

not sure why you posted this in the priest forum, but to answer your question...

1 strength is just as effective as 2 AP, unless you have Kings up, in which case 1 strength = 2.2 AP, but 2 AP still = 2 AP.

using your example, 6 str with kings becomes 13.2 AP, whereas 12 AP is still 12 AP. multiply this by having, say, 500 strength, and you see why str>AP.

I apologize. I clicked on Priest instead of Paladin, and I am very very sorry for the mis-posting.

Don't worry about it. I've done worse things before.

And I can kind of see this being useful information for a healer to know in a PuG, especially a heroic one at that.

These days, it seems like the healer needs to be the one judging people's gear for heroics.

1 strength is always better than 2ap for ret, because of the strength talent. With Kings, it's even moreso. Other than that, there's not much a difference.
No talent/no kings: 1str=2ap
Talent/no kings: 1str=2.2ap
No talent/kings: 1str=2.2ap
Talent/kings: 1str=2.42ap
