I've hit 70, now what?Follow

Alright.. So I've played the game some time but this is my first time actually at end game. I've found it to be qutie overwhelming, though I'm working on all kinds of faction rep and I get an instance or two in every now and then.

My first question would be to what gear I should be going after? I'm not all that well geared, some blues. I've managed to nab a few pieces of the Opportunist set((As well, which is more beneficial? The Opportunist set or the Assassination set?)). And I'm working on the last two factions for the full set. But I'm not sure what I need to do to "get geared" as I hear a lot of people say. I understand that it works much the same as it did at 60, pre BC; as in I need to aquire tiered sets of gear to be competent for the next set of dungeons. But, to be honest I have no clue where I begin. Or where to go for anything I could use. Any information would be helpful and greatly appreciated.

My second question would be as to what factions, if any, that would be recommended for building rep with as a Rogue? I know quite a few factions offer some excellent gear and trinkets that'd be nice for my rogue, but I'm lost as to which ones.

Thanks for giving this the time and read over, for probably a pretty simple question to answer.

OK, here we go;

It is very late in the game now, so most of the old stuff, is kinda well...old.

The assassination set is the PvE(raiding?) set, whilst the Opportunist set is the PvP set.

I would advise to first do a load of BGs, as the easiest way to upgrade your weapons(he most important aspect of a rogue) is by buying the PvP weapons.

They are kara level+(s1) and soon they will be SSC level+(s2).

I don't really know about trinkets, my trinkets sucked, I actually use the battlemasters trinket in PvE as well...

The most important reputation would be cenarion for the head enchant.

For the rest of the gear set, I am not totally sure. Getting the old Dungeon 3 sets seems a little too much, but if you prefer it over PvP, it might be worthwhile.

I am int eh same situation as you are, but on ym priest.

I just dinged 7o on Friday night, and now am lost as to what to do.

I am sitting on 22k honor...

I am half thinking to just stack honor slowly until wotlk hits and then play her seriously, because to be honest, bu the time she is geared enough for anything, wotlk will hit(or be hitting) and it will all be for nothing.

Obviously that is me thinking that I want a nice geared toon to play around with for a while, and not get burnt out and have to restart everything again.

Since this is your first toon though, ou will enjoy the gearing up hopefully.

Did I actually help? Smiley: grin

I hit 70 on my rogue 9 days ago but this is my second character so I'm nearly in the same boat as you but not quite. From the sounds of it, you're slightly better geared than I was last week - I had no blues whatsoever and I'm still very short of decent gear.

I would echo Devz's sentiments about pvp. There's some really nice gear available right now and even better stuff to come when Arena Season 4 hits. I'm currently saving my honor to purchase the S2 gear that becomes available.

There's a list somewhere of pve gear that you should have before joining karazhan raids. Some of it comes from heroics and some from normal instances. A couple of the items are really easy to get hold of but for the rest, you'll need to grind out that rep.

Which factions to go for first? Aldor is the primary one but you'd be well advised to go for honored to exalted with pretty much all the others (except scryers of course), really. If you can get the Aldor exalted-rep sword, that's worth having and you can save 18000 honor for other things.

There's another PvE set of leather gear you should investigate - Wastewalker. Two items from WW and two from Assassination give the best set bonuses.

Trinkets... if you've got Bladefist's Breath from the Hellfire Peninsula quest, that's a good one to keep.

Man, I don't even know how you get to 70 without being decked out in blues. There are so many good quests rewards in Outlands, I assume you mostly leveled through grinding?

As for "now what?", it kind of depends on where you want to go with your character.

If you plan on moving to raids, you're going to need to gear up mostly through PVE. The lvl 70 instances are a good start, and they will help with rep grinds as well. A good approach is to look at your worst piece of armor and target replacing it. Use the item search, a loot add-on, etc to figure out who drops what items in which instances. I wouldn't recommend trying to raid until you are mostly in blues, unless you are in group geared well enough to compensate for your shortcomings. Running these instances will also often pair you with other players that are in the same stage of the game, and may be people that you can build relationships with for further raiding, etc.

If your goal is to get money, go around and do as many quests as possible, and start picking up dailies. Your epic flying mount will pay for itself on dailies. Trying to use money to gear up will cost you a ton of cash, and will leave a lot of holes in your gear simply because there just isn't that much great BoE stuff for end game.

If you want to get into PvP and Arena, then you need to start hitting BGs and arena matches as much as possible. That's the path to resilience gear, which is the backbone of PvP.

I know how ya feel. The game is very different at 70. Almost an entirely new game really.

First thing I would suggest--and I strongly suggest this--do some research. If you want to be more than a casual instance runner (i.e. get into raiding, including Kara), then you'll want to develop a good grasp of basic class mechanics. A forum post, even by know-it-alls, isn't really going to help you in the long run as much as knowing why these suggestions are being made. I'd start with the roguecraft 101 threat over at Elitist Jerks and the stickies here.

You don't need to know every calculation or anything, just a basic understanding can help massively.

As noted above, the Opportunist set is for fresh 70s to gear for BGs. It's not built for PvE. Start running instances for gear. The Outland quest rewards are good, but instance gear is almost always better. I used wowhead (a ton... I mean... a ton) to find upgrades and where they dropped.

First faction I would suggest is CE (in Zanga) for the head enchant. The rep is fairly simple to get and the enchant is friggin awesome. After that, Scryer or Aldor for the shoulder enchant. At least, I wish I had done this order when my rogue first got to 70.

Other than that, welcome to 70 and gratz! Happy hunting

The simplest start at upgrades would be using the 'find upgrade' feature for your toon's armory listing. See where the upgrades come from, instance boss drops, reputation rewards, PvP rewards, etc., and grind those out.

My rogue is in slightly better shape. He's got two of the assassination set pieces already. Thanks for the suggestion above to grab two pieces of the WW set. I'll go do that.

Thank you all for the informative responses. I've started working towards getting my Assasination set together(and now I'll aim for a couple pieces of the Wastewalker set), as well I'm grinding out Daily quests regularly. Another thousand gold and I've got my epic flyer.

I've also been perusing the rogue boards, taking in any information I can for this stage of the game.

My rogue is decently decked out in blues, but its nothing phenomenal.. a couple are from early sixties instance runs. The rest through cheap buys at the auction house or simply questing. I managed to score a Blinkstrike for exceptionaly cheap and figured it could tide me over till I can find a suitable replacement, probably from PvPing.

Thanks once again for the responses, the information is already helping my character along!
