Approaching Outland, Combat Viability?Follow

My Rogue is fast approaching Outland and for the most part he has been combat throughout my leveling.

Simple question, is Combat still viable for the outland lvl-grind? If not feel free to suggest some builds, I do plan on using this rogue for PvP applications @ 70 (Arena Mostly).

Combat is still the best spec, combat swords within.

I still think combat = win, however I found that burst mutilate was useful for solo grinding. you take very little damage and tear mobs apart rather quickly. I also found it easier to get good DPS daggers rather than swords for most of that range.

I personally like variations off of this build. Its good for XP levelling for the burst damage, and its good for pvp with some of the traits.
the idea is to open with CS in PVE, then as soon as a poison ticks (or before CS is about to run out), pop a mutilate. wait till your at ~70 or more energy, kidney shot, and double mutilate. if its not dead you have 5 CP to finish it off in, and the mob is stunned at least half the fight.
its not the best instance damage though. thats part of what improved ambush helps with. improved ambush is also great for battlegrounds as well.

you can go down the combat tree if you want. as you start getting DW spec that will outdamage opportunity any time.

combat is still best for instances, but this spec is an interesting change up if your getting bored.

I was ShS daggers from 66-69.9 and I had a LOT of fun with it.

I killed mobs quickly and easily, and basically never died.

It made me wish daggers weren't broken at 70 :(

Any spec is viable for leveling.

Lol...do we have to have this meaningless discussion in semantics again?

I also leveled with shadowstep. Like a previous poster said, it was a lot of fun. The only thing lacking is blade flurry, which would have been nice at times.

That being said, combat is what probably 90% of rogues specced from 60-70.

Combat swords has been proven, time and time again to be the most efficient. But having fun on the way to 70 is more important really. Try out the other builds for a while. If you love deep sub great! If no, respecs are relatively cheap. ;)

Combat isn't as viable as Drizzt though.

If people keep using words incorrectly than yes, it appears we do.

Maybe you don't think its important that we use agreed upon definition of words?

Toothpick frog flip for boink dribble spank?

Combat is easier for adds, which i got alot of in outlands. I was Shs till outlands then went combat. Im 67 and went back to Shs, simply because combat is boring. But it makes leveling in hellfire pennensula alot easier. Exspecially since those fel orcs dont like to fight 1v1. Blade Flurry/SnD/ evasion FTW! Easy way to burn down 2-4 mobs at once. (will prob need a pot if 4 mobs).

LoL. I saw Drizzzdoorden the other day at the Darnasus bank. Level 7 NELF Hunter....go figure. Great series of books though...waiting for October when the new one is out.

On subject:

I went mutilate at 50 and never regretted it. At 55 it really shines if you head down the sub tree picking up Opportunity first. It makes for fun solo leveling as mentioned, but also, as mentioned, adds will tear you apart. Two on one is doable, pop evasion, burn the first down then go after the next. If your health is low you can blind 'n' bandage but you will be hard pressed against much more than two mobs.

Good luck and happy leveling.
