Best raiding spec?Follow

I'm sure this has been answered time and time again but I have seen so many different answers and want a STRAIGHT answer. What is the BEST raiding spec? Arcane/Fire, Arcane/Frost, Fire/Arcane or Fire/Frost?

You've probably seen so many different answers because everyone has found something that works well in their opinion. Gear plays a factor. While many up and down will swear that Arc/Fire is THE best option to go with for raiding, it doesn't do much good when you have Frozen Shadoweave, does it?

I'd say people love 2/48/11 the most. The 2 points go into Arcane Subtlety, which makes Arcane spells do only 60% threat, and the 11 frost points can go anywhere, Elemental Precision and Icy Veins are the only ones you MUST take.

I think that the best raiding spec would depend on what level of progression you're at. At SSC/TK, 40/0/21 2pc t5 can do really well in terms of dps as long as you can handle your mana and can afford Mana Pots and know what spell rotation to use. At Hyjal/BT 2/48/11 Fire w/ IV begins to pull ahead.

Just my 2 cents.

I myself use the 10/48/3 spec for Raiding and have thus far seen it work great for me. I'm interested tho in respecc'ing to the fire/icy veins 2/45/11 raid extreme spec yet whats the best choice for the remaining 3 when Raiding?

Would this be Pyro, Blast Wave and Imp Fire Blast, or perhaps something else?

It depends on your gear. At low levels of spell damage (e.g. <800), arcane/fire (40/21/0) is better than 10/48/3 or 2/48/11. Once you hit that magic 800 spell damage mark, 10/48/3 and 2/48/11 pull ahead. 2/48/11 is the higher of the 2 in damage, but 10/48/3 is a bit more mana efficient.

If frost is what you do, then arcane/frost is also viable, if there are 2 frost mages in the guild and 1 is deep frost, the other can be arcane/frost to maximum effect because you can use the other's winter's chill effect.

There you have it. For builds, look in the sticky.

Note that this post did not include the words: "I think", or "In my experience".... it's based on some math. There is a very nice graph on this forum somewhere that shows the triple point for fire damage (and what levels of crit & spell damage are required) for 3 specs: 10/48/3 vs. 40/21/0 vs. 33/28/0.

tbh the sticky doesnt at all mention the 2/45/11+3 spec which is a shame. I wanted to know what the community of mages here spec the last 3 telent points out when going for 2/45/11+3

I've been fire all my life yet want to know if the "norm" is to put the 3 remaining points into fire (in the areas I mentioned before) or perhaps there isa better combo.

any advise would be greatly appreciated as I currently have slightly over 800k DMG and need to improve on DMG for SSC (mainly Vashj)

I've been meaning to work on it, but it's been kinda hectic at work this week. Perhaps I'll do that tonight.

2 of the last 3 points go into fire for sure(not sure which talent you haven't picked up). The last point goes whereever you want it. I put mine in Impact because I love that talent.
