Firepower Vs. IntFollow

#1 May 09 2008 at 5:44 PM Rating: Good
I am a lvl 26 Pyroblaster with 2 sets of gear.

.........................SET #1.....SET #2
STR......................18.........18
AGI.......................33.........33
STM......................52..........70
INT......................108........138
SPI.......................75............79
ARMOR....................604........596

Spell Damage..............19.........8
Fire Damage...............70........17
Total extra damage......89........25

As you can see, Set #1 has a +89 damage potential, but the other one has +30 Int.
I tried switching back and forth to see the damage potentials of each.

I like the damage spikes with the Pyro set, and a 2 shot hit on the mob is sweet. But the +int and extra Mana is really nice.

I don't see alot of mages with +DAMAGE gear.
Is there a reason for it?
Is the +Int. a better way to go?

I really haven't seen definitive answers anywhere, so any input would be great.

I leveled and level all my alts with +stat gear. I never would bother with +dmg or +heal untill closer to level 40 when they start to come together or in more signifcant amounts and when you already have a good foundation of mana. Its easy to run out of mana at low levels and that will get you nowhere fast.
*i also leveled my mage before many low level loots were buffed, so it could be different now than it was then*

You don't see a lot of mages with +dmg at your level, or +hit, or +crit etc.

At 70 it's a a whole different story. Even at that level, the +dmg far outweighs the intellect, in those amounts I mean.

89 dmg > 30 int.

yeah im honestly not very sure. But before a recent patch none of the lower end gear really had any +dmg on it, it was all +stats so that is how most of us have leveled.

I personally would say go for the stam and intel. 89 dmg is pretty sweet for a lvl 29 but if your dead all the +dmg in the world wont do much... plus as a lvl 29 mage youve gotta have what like 900-1k hp? lol,

im also hoping by "pyroblaster" you mean your fire spec. Standing there casting multiple pyros would not be an ideal way to fight anything really, and if that is what your doing, chances are the mob is pounding on you while your casting the 2nd one so again the extra stam would come into play there.

Hmm... a fireball that normally does average 150 damage doing average 239 damage is actually a pretty big difference at that level. Casting 2 fireballs at a mob adds in 178 damage to an enemy. I think that's pretty substantial.

But then again, 30 intellect is a boost of 450 mana, and while that's nothing to a level 70, could be very nice at level 26.

I'm really liking the damage.

Edit: Could I actually see your Armory profile so I know which gear to make my third mage wear while leveling? xD

Thanks for the info.
I am lvl 29 now and up to +114 damage with my gear and a couple of usable items.

+96 on gear
+10 on Elixer
+ 8 on Wiz Oil

I'd love to show you my Amory, but I got to find out how to set it up first. lol

Without any pot, elixers, buff, etc, I am 663-HP 1887-MP with just my gear.

** I am not PYROBLASTING continuously LMFAO **

On an even lvl Mob, a Pyroblast then a Fireball usually does the job. I'll Fireblast if needed. At lvl 29, my fireballs are doing 310 - 390 constantly, except for the 480+ crits.

I am not in a guild, so I don't raid and stuff.....so, when is a good time to switch to Frost? All I do is grind away slowly.

You don't have to set anything up. Just tell us your character's name and server name(and whether you're on US or EU), and it's really easy to look up.

For US, go here. Type in your character name and click on the one that has the correct server for you.

Pretty simple, actually.

Here is the link to my character.

And I actually got another upgrade, so its 104 + 10 + 8 = 122 added damage.

Still missing a few spots that I can add +damage, but always looking. lol

Hehe, I figured it would be items Of Fiery Wrath.

Pretty simple and handy gearing.

If it's working for you, go with it. Make sure you keep enough items with Intellect to last through a couple fights though! :)
