Imp. Demoral = Imp. Threat?Follow

#1 May 09 2008 at 3:08 PM Rating: Decent
I've given tanking a break and have been running 5-mans as DPS. Looking at my spec I'm thinking of picking up Imp. Demoralizing Shout to help out my Feral Tank friend (as we often run with little or no cc just for sport). This talent grants an additional 8% AP reduction per point up to 40% which will mean a considerable reduction in the damage she takes through most of our runs. I am aware that my threat is 20% under baseline in battle stance but will the improved talent increase my threat along with it's AP reduction? (No info regarding threat is given in the tooltip.)

Thx!

Don't quote me on this but I think the threat from Demo shout only increases with rank up to +56 at rank 7 (according to wowwiki) divided amongst targets. Talent only increases the AP debuff.

From experience the threat generated by demo shout is pretty insignificant and shouldn't be an issue with a fully geared/spec tank.

Demoralizing Shout in general is very low threat. In fact, you will probably have LESS threat for using it instead of burning the rage on another ability. Improved has the same threat as the normal version.

However, don't put the full 5 points in it. It's effectiveness caps at 2/5 points, unless you have a warlock using curse of recklessness, but that is pretty rare. Put 2 points in if you think you will use it a lot, but don't expect to see a noticeable difference in the damage taken. You can see it if you compare damage meters between fights with or without it, but not significant in real experiences.

While it is low threat, it still is threat. So if you have more than 4 mobs, and you want to establish threat on them, demo shout is your best first option, to get the mobs attention.

Back in the days of ZG while doing panther boss, two OT's would tank all the adds by spamming demo shout over and over again.

its non directional threat, so its threat in the sence that the mobs will recognise you doing it, but unless no one else has made any threat on that target they aren't gonna agro to you just because you have D. shouted.

its kinda they reason to pull attuemen once he spawns i use a D. shout. No direct threat until i start hitting him, but he's been affected by the shout and is obviously pissed

you didn't say what level you were running at, but basically zeynothix is right - 2/5 takes a bosses AP down to zero, so the extra 3 points don't help in PVE content.
