Pretty good info. Confirms some things about simply requiring a level 55 character on any server to unlock one DK per server on all servers, DKs being able to be any class, and the rune system. Apparently, their tanking niche is going to be as an anti-caster tank (like the Inquisitor was supposed to be in Vanguard). It will probably destroy casters in PvP too, with the ability to teleport things right to its feet. I'll probably end up having to level one, what with already having a 70 prot war, 70 prot pally, and up-and-coming 62 druid.

Sweet...so I can go from playing my Ally toons on a PVE server to a Horde DK on a PVP server.
I wonder how many DK's will show up on some of the better known PVP servers...

Interesting, I didn't think of that while reading the article. It did sort of mention you can server jump and roll a high level death knight on your friends server- but will they really allow PVE->PVP transfers? I bet all the reporters were awe struck with all this new info so they forgot to ask =D

Right now my main character is a mage, so I feel a little threatened by these anti caster abilities. But at the same time I'm really impressed by all these features and I might have to roll a DK. I'm still undecided, leveling 55-80 is more of a hike then it might seem.

Anyways on my mage, I'll hopefully find ways of dealing with DK's. It's nice to see new info, thanks for the article!

You will not be able to transfer characters from a PvE server to a PvP server.

EDIT: Also after doing some reading you will only be able to make a death knight on the server where your level 55 characters is on. So you cannot make level 55 death knights on all of the servers just because you have one level 55 characters somewhere.
Link to proof of this follows:
Look under the Death Knight section first bullet

According to the link in the first post, that is wrong Doctorgabel.

In the 6th paragraph, it says:

Quote:
Players will be able to make multiple Death Knights, but they’ll have to do so over multiple servers rather than just one. If you have friends playing on another server and you have a level 55 character somewhere, you’ve unlocked your Death Knight. You can then go and create a Death Knight on their server, join up with them, and be able to play alongside them. It gives you a little bit of a head start.

According to this, which seems like it was quoted from Chilton, it seems that if you have a character on any server 55 and above, you'll be able to create a Death Knight on any other server of your choice without having a level 55 char on that specific server.

Edit: Rate up to OP for bringing great information on the Death Knight class and the new expansion.

Yes, Wowinsider has just clarified their error and the Death Knight is, unfortunately, an unlock per account. So you will be able to make a death knight on any server after you reach level 55.

I was wrong in my first post because WowInsider.com, which is usually very trustworthy, misinterpreted Chilton and posted wrong information on their website. They have since changed this to be correct with a new post that has just showed up on their website.

This is unfortunate, I can't imagine the amount of server storage that the WoW servers will have to use just to hold a million unused level 55 Death Knights that people will roll on random servers.

?? They don't need any storage whatsoever except a bit per account (1=enabled, 0=not enabled), and that will probably be fit into the WotLK enabled portion of the account. When a server is entered, the display can be changed depending on that particular bit and whether a DK already exists there for the account.

...or, are you talking about people who will create L55 DKs and never use them? The limit is still 50 toons per account, and I don't think that will change.

So according to Tentonhammer or where ever, one can, for example, have an L. 55 on, say, Illidan, and make a DK on, say Tichondrius? Like, is it restricted to the server the 55 is on?

It should take little, if any more data to store a level 55 character than a level 1 character.

According to the information that has been given up to this point in time, as long as you have a level 55 character on any server you have unlocked the Death Knight class.

Along with unlocking this class, you can create a Death Knight on any server of your choice, limited to 1 Death Knight per server/per account. This means you are not limited to servers at which you have a level 55 on.
