I have been told that 10 resilience will make up for 3 def rating (to a point)

The guy said I could go 487 with 10 resilience and be fine. If this is true I might be able to work out a little more stam in my gear.

How accurate is this?

'Resilience will count as 0 tankpoints in all items that have it in this guide since the baseline is always over the 490 defense mark, but it does have a useful benefit. If you are trading off some tanking gear for aggro generating gear, you usually try to remain crit-immune. If some of your gear has resilience, the defense cap is actually lowered. For example, if you have the Gladiator's Shield Wall, then your defense cap is actually 472.'

Not sure what this works out to for def-->resilience translation (mostly cause I have a dentist appt in 5 mins), but that should head you in the right dir.

Cheers!

Since one point of resilience will reduce your chance to getting critically hit by 1%. it should be easy to figure out right? each point of resilience should reduce your defense cap with 5.

Or am i way wrong here?

I never really understood resilience TBH. I wasn't even sure if it worked in PvE until recently. I thought the cap on it was so low that it was useless for pve.

I looked it up on WOWWIKI:
1% of res ---> 1% less chance to be critted.
39.4 res rating at 70 = 1% of res.

+25 def = 1% less chance to be critted.

So +39.4 res = +25 def skill

Or am I ******** something up...
(man I hate math).

Cheers!

Def also adds Miss/Dodge/Parry/Block. Does resilience?

no it doesnt increase your other tanking stats, which is part of the reason res isnt preferred.

res lowers crits taken, and crit damage taken. if your already uncrittable, then the -crit damage taken is useless. it takes more res than defense to lower your crit rate, and that only effects crits, while defense will help your avoidance stats a little.

all in all, only take res if you have nothing else better to use really. while you can be uncrittable, if your avoiding less attacks you will be taking more damage.

That makes sense. Reason I asked is because my belt is still green and I have seen an item here and there that "could" be an upgrade but I didn't want to replace it unless the best I get would have enough Def rating to keep me at 490.

However I have about 13 resiliance right now and was told I could let my def rating drop to 487 (without belt I am at 489 I think) and be fine.

I have started trying heroics but the healer I come stock with doesn't have enough + healing to keep us up at the moment as she only has 769 + healing.

If you are doing heroics only you only need 485 defense. the 490 defense is aimed at raid bosses (level 73) and i am 95% sure the highest level boss in any heroic is 72.

Yes, that's correct Nikkel.

But a healer with only 769 +healing shouldnt be in heroics. Seriously, you can get much more healing just from green q-rewards and AH blue's. But im going off-topic too much now ;)
