Blizzard says that the death knight will be the first hero class. But what is a hero class in WoW, weren't Paladins a hero class? Arthas and Uther or Uthar were paladins, and they were heroes. If you played online or on a custom game seperate from the campaign and went to the altar of storms you could buy a paladin, a mountain king, and some other thing. So basically why aren't paladins a hero class, but death knight are.

I'm pretty sure the new definiton of "Hero Class" is a class you don't start out with (i.e. Mage, Warrior, Priest, ect.), but must unlock by fufilling certain conditions. For the Death Knight, you must be level 55 (source).

For more info, check out the WoWiki page on it.

I think it's like fish said, its not a hero class because of its powers or its lore, but because you need to 'unlock' it. Other than that it will be equal in 'power' to other classes.'

Edit: grammar

In an article I read in one of the PC mags, there was an interview with one of Blizzard's representatives...it was hinted that each class may have a heroic version added on.

One of the first that was mentioned was the Druid, and the idea being that these would be rolled out over a period of time along with the regular patches.

Who knows, who can say for definite - all I know is that I cannot wait until I get my grubby little hands on WoTLK and my new Death Knight!

Eylise.

Edit for spelling!

When you make a statement like this you should be able to back it up by posting a URL to an official source, or label it pure speculation. Not that I doubt pure speculation coming from you after reading other posts of yours.

Maybe someone alse already answered this but a Hero class is a class that is already exerienced (high level) and must be unlocked... a unit that may have not been a hero may become one and vice-versa.

Oh, and one per server.

This will probably surface when thepostWOTLK expansion appears but you may or may not be able to have two different Heros in one server... if not then its going to be horrible moving around your death knight to find another suitable server so you can play the new Hero class with old friends. Sorry, I tend to have excessive foresight - I'm amazed at how much I worry about things that wont happen for years.
