Arena.. Spec?Follow

#1 May 08 2008 at 6:48 PM Rating: Good
Hi guys. I have a couple questions about my spec and what to do with upcoming arena points.
I play 2v2 only with a resto druid friend of mine, and we're both working on gear right now. I'm mutilate (I love the spec, but I think I would love ShS more if it was better than what I have right now with this combo.)

So, here are our armories. (Terrible rating is from bringing my scrub warrior in for a week and going 2-8 because of his gear problems).

Would anyone like to share some tips? I'm torn over whether to stay muti, spend 2283 points on the s2 mace, farm 18k honor for s1, or run kara for badges for more gear while waiting for Fool's Bane/Spiteblade to drop. My other choice is to spend the points on s3 pants (which could be the legs from Kara, which have 3 sockets and are almost on-par) or to get the s3 gloves... or head... or chest... or something.

My friend druid is slowly replacing his cloth sh*t, he almost has enough badges for kharmaa's shroud of hope and will be getting the s3 belt and gloves next.

So should I stay muti and spend points on leather gear, blow points on mace... or what? And any playing tips? We play mostly offensively- I open up, wait until i get to 70% then he pounces and pops out. (He needs to learn Travel Form a little better and start to do more NS>cyclone for offensive, but he's working on that.)

You know what would be awesome?

If someone wrote a PvP FAQ.

Oh...wait.

Edit: also, you should never buy an old season's gear on arena points.

Stop, stop, stooooop.

Proper builds are easy to get, so I won't discuss this.

Getting proper gear isn't rocket-science either, but you need some pointers since you're not in the right mood AT ALL.

Repeat afer me: I will not buy outdated gear, which means:
a) no S1 weapons through honor: if you want to purchase weapons through honor, wait a few weeks and get the S2 weapons when S4 is out,
a) no S3 gear with arena points: again, wait for the S4 stuff, it's only a few weeks away (max).

Only exception would be if you already have 75k honor and 100 marks of each. And still, in this situation I would focus on badges to get better stuff from sunwell. That's pretty much the situation I am in: I've got crappy S1 weapons, no sufficient rating to get the S4 weapons, so I'm getting the Sunwell weapons which are good.

And by the time S4 is out, I'll have 75k honor and pretty much 100 marks of each (on top of 3k arena points). Should get me some nice stuff and make me full S3/S4 and thus more or less on equal footing with average pvpers.

Problem is, Nostra, that S4 all has rating requirements on it. The OP doesn't even meet the minimum requirements for the lowest of the gear, meaning that he can only get the neck, belt, trinket, and gloves of S4.

True, but it seems he started pvping/doing arena not very long ago. So I guess that the neck, belt, trinket, and gloves of S4 are going to use a lot of what he's saved. Around 1k arena points and 40+k honor points.

He should get 150 badges to get a nice MH and OH from Sunwell.

With this stuff, he should be able to improve his rating and use the points saved in the meantime to acquire more stuff.

NOW, if he tells us he's got 5k arena points or 75k honor, it's another story. Sure, then he could afford to get better stuff right now. But I doubt it, I rather have the feeling that he was going to get (soon to be) outdated stuff because he was not aware that S4 would be out soon.

Well, i've been arenaing since season 1 but with some terrible hunter... then got 1640 last season with a druid.

Currently i have ~1.6k arena points and 5k honor with ~50 marks of each and 0 eots marks.

I thought season 4 wouldn't be for awhile... like WotLK awhile. But if i'm wrong, i'm happy to pool my points- We're doing fine as is and if i don't bring my warrior in i'm sure we can hit 1600+.

Thanks for all your input!

Edit: Nostra, i thought keeping OH dagger is better for poison procs... it's only ~30 dps off at most (not sure) and gives .1 speed, 27 stam and resilience, all of which I need because i'm obviously not near the cap. It also saves me 45 badges which I can spend on Dory's Embrace or other things like Angelista's Revenge or something

(This is Danteter on his other acct.)

Great, defaulted... and for what?

Anyway, got the 2v2 up to high 1500s now and snatched Fool's Bane (along with some PvE upgrades) on the rogue. I respecced 20/0/41 and I have yet to try arena again.

So, when is S4 coming out? Any estimates?

Whenever the current arena tournament is over.

My rogue is happily waiting is his crappy gear for s4 to hit to blow all of his honor stashed away. My priest has the mats for mongoose for both the s2 swords in his bank too.

The only reason to get a dagger offhand (which many of the hardcore pvp only rogues are doing) is if you're planning on not having a pve set. Not having two swords will gimp your dps and energy regen a bit. If pvp is all you want to do, then by all means wait to snag the s2 offhand dagger.

i've already got the s2 dagger with mongoose on it. I don't really pve as i'm only a few badges away from dory's embrace, too.

Also, my previous druid partner (sunwell gear gogo!) has taken up WoW again, and we're going to hit arena this weekend... We will see how it goes, i'm sure we will do great because we are good at working with eachother.
