Early talent BuildFollow

I am currently lvl 16 with 2 talents that are unused. I`m looking to be a tank in endgame and throught my playing career. With that being said, which are some of the early must have talents? I`m currently 5/5 improved Devotion Aura. Which talents should I go 5/5 for and which should I only put 1 in, etc? This goes for any tree.

What exactly does increase armor value from items for Toughness mean?

This is where I was at that level:
7 points in Ret

Hit a bit harder and more parries = more swings.

But, I also went right for Seal of Command with the idea of leveling Ret. Going Prot spec didn't make sense to me before mid-50s (personally, I spec'd prot at 62). I was able to tank most instances just fine with a sword and board up to Outland. I did however, usually tank them at the top-end of the level range.

At the lower levels I don't know that Improved Devotion Aura helps all that much. But that's just an opinion.

1) You'll get more out of Redoubt than Improved Devotion Aura. Early on (starting with getting Ret Aura), end-game, all of it.

2) It's a good idea to, whatever talent you get, max it out. There are a few talents in this game where only putting one point in can still be very beneficial, but really for a Paladin tank, that isn't the case. There are some builds in the FAQ that are what I recommend so read that and follow it on down as you level.

Specifically at 16 I'd have 5/5 Redoubt and 2/5 Toughness. Make sure that you get the following talents ASAP though, even if the talent you were previously plugging points into is not full: Improved Righteous Fury, Blessing of Sanctuary/Reckoning, and Holy Shield.

3) Toughness means that if a piece of armor has 1000 armor on it, it will now grant you 1100 armor, an increase of 10%. It does not apply to armor gained through agility though, just the armor value on the item itself.

I'm in the mid 20s and working on my first plate toon. I am going Ret. because it's the fastest leveling spec. However, I find that if I die - it's due to not getting heals off fast enough (Due to spell knock-back) So. I put 5 points into holy (+STR) and then 5 points into the talent that reduces my chances to get the spell knocked back.

While this isn't a pure Ret Build, I'm finding it to be pretty good. I don't have any problems soloing. The improved +STR only helps my attacks. (I could have gone for the +INT, but I'm doing 70% melee damage (Estimate) at this point and I don't use too much mana.)

Also - I can and have tanked 2 instances. The +STR only helps me hold hate. I still have the +Aura in tier 1 Ret. I'm working on Tier 2 at this point. by the time I'm at 30, I'll have 10 in Holy, then the rest in Ret.

This is very different than mage. Since we can do different things - we can (and probably should) consider this when we spec. I'm not a great healer (The +INT would help that) but I'm an awesome tank and a good DPS.
