Loyalty leveling working?Follow

Is anyone else experiencing excruciatingly slow loyalty leveling on a new pet since the patch? I picked up a 69 Lynx outside of Netherstorm the other day. I've leveled him 3/4 of the way to 70 (questing and dailies) and haven't picked up a single loyalty level yet (he is still at level 1, rebellious).

And yes, I'm keeping him happy and well fed.

Anyone else experiencing this?

I recently tamed an Owl that was level 67. He gained a loyalty level at about the same time that he gained an actual level. Gaining loyalty just takes longer the closer your pet is to 70.

my hunter is only 54. But when i tamed King B, it took almost 3 levels before he was at lv 6 loyalty -.-
I thought he would never get there.

Makes sense. I don't mind the grind as long as it's universal. I was just thinking my pet might be bugged.

Took me 4 days of doing dailys with my pet, about 20 a day (QD, Netherwing, Outland) to get my new ravanger up to loyalty level 6.

Following links I found on Petopias website, when tested, it was found that a pet will increase 1 level of loyalty for each 5% of the experience YOU would need to earn to level. Even once you hit 70, the pet still needs the theoretical experience earned in order to lvl. Which means you must be killing mobs that would give you experience.

In my own personal tests in the past, I found that my pet would gain a lvl of loyalty for each 1/2 level of experience that MY PET earned.

Even to level low level pets, you must still kill mobs that would give YOU experience. I recently grinded a boar from 10 to 70. (Really wanted a black one.) I was able to get from 10-50 in a few hours of playing. Once he hit about 60 the leveling became quite slow. However, I would strongly advise against trying to solo or specing BM while bringing up a low level pet. My tactic was to spec SV for a while and drag my boar through several heroic instances. Not one person ever griped about my low level boar. Even the first run through heroic ramps with him at lvl 10. Was pretty funny to watch him gain a lvl almost every kill. And if someone had tried to argue against my low level pet, I'd simply report the damage meters where I was always #1 and shut them up quick.

Took my 70 owl about 3 days of doing dailies to get to lvl 6 loyalty.

Just curious, did you ever actually send your pet in while "dragging' him through higher level instances? I'm assuming the answer to that would be a no, since cleaves and AOE's would one shot him.

Yes loyalty is working just fine. I recently leveled a wind serpent and got his loyalty up. Now, it does seem to take 3x as long to gain loyalty if you're already 70, but you do eventually gain loyalty levels.

Eliff, you are correct. I kept my pet at my side almost the whole time. There were a few occations though where I sent it after a rat or other critter. :) But some fights, AOE damage is unavoidable and the pig did die.

Well this gives me a little motivation to go get one of those cool pigs in RFK and level him up. I don't raid anymore, and don't expect to any time soon. I've cut my playtime way back, and was looking for a diversion, so this (and leveling up my leatherworking past 250) might be it.

OK....so we know that to gain pet loyalty you need to be killing mobs that would gain your hunter XP (not the pet). Is it then safe to assume the same for increasing the level (versus the loyalty) of the pet?

For example, on a level 70 hunter with a level 30 pet, can we safely assume the pet will not gain experience killing level 40-50 mobs?

This may be correct, but it can't be the entire story of how Loyalty works. I have on more than one occasion had a Pet level up in Loyalty while I was standing around in Org. If it took EXP (theoretical level 70 EXP or real EXP for levels 10-69) for the Pets Loyalty level to increase that could never happen.

Whenever I tame new pets, the first loyalty level increase seems to take forever. The next couple seem to happen too quickly. meh It all works out fine eventually.

Theres also a time element to it too Komp. 5% EXP+1 hour for example. I'll see if I can find the link to it around somewhere.

Edit:

Found. :)
