IF I WAS PONDERING COMING TO W.O.W. AS A MAGE....WHAT IS THE BEST RACE TO CHOOSE?ANY AND ALL HELP WOULD BE APPRECIATED.....

Really, in WoW there is no "best" race for any given class. There are some attributes that weigh in the decision, but there is nothing that is crucial to the playability of a mage.
Generally, for Horde Undead get a lot of mages, mostly b/c they have the best PvP racial talent. As far as Alliance goes, not entirely sure, Humans get some nice xp bonus, Gnomes get some Int bonus, but Draneai (spelling) have lower spell hit cap and a healing spell, so personally I'd do Dran...the last one.

The most important choice is whether you want to be Alliance or Horde. Then you can choose your race. And, really, choose what you like. The racial abilities don't make that much difference unless you are an uber hardcore PvPer (in which case undead or gnome seem like the best options since you will always be feared and snared). For casual PvP, semi-serious PvP and leveling it really comes down to aesthetics.
