Need to bring my DPS more.. what gear will help me the mostFollow

Hello all-

Slowly and surely I've been improving my gear though Badges and mostly Kara runs. It seems like the drops lately in Kara have been geared towards Healing/Spell and Shammy.

I know that the Wolf Slayer will drop someday and maybe the Sunfury will also drop form Prince this week, but other than that...what gear should I be concetrating my efforts on to improve DPS.

Went to Gruul the other night and we downed High King but I lost the roll on my shoulders, which is OK since I have a decent one. Maybe the Legs will drop if we down Gruul and I get lucky. I did manage to top the DPS chart that night, but not by much..Maybe 2% or so.

Here is my armory HERE

I have about 78 Badges now and I'm pretty sure I want the legs (100 Badges). I am however always #1 DPS in our Kara runs which is normally 22-25% DPS while the next person in line sometimes is only doing 17-18%.

I keep seeing people on here with similar gear to mine but claiming between 900-1200 DPS..how do they do that? What part of their gear makes them reach such high numbers? Is my Gun gimping me? are my legs the culprit? My 1:1 Rotation from the sticky not good enough?

Please lemme know..
Thanks

Talents: Not bad, I run with a few differences, but I can see the logic of your choices.

Gear: If you have 78 badges, I would save up for the 150 Badge crossbow. That will be the biggest DPS boost available to you for a while.

Your hit rating is close enough to max that I wouldn't worry about it.

Try the 3:2 rotation, which is a good way for burst damage. (It isn't as mana efficient, and you cannot maintain it through a boss fight, but it gives a real boost for the end of the fight. If you are finishing boss fights with mana, then you aren't giving it your all.)

1:1
/castsequence Steady Shot, !Auto Shot

3:2
/castrandom !Auto Shot
/cast Steady Shot

That's the meat of the difference between the two rotations, be sure to add the rest. The 3:2 will clip your Auto Shot, but will increase DPS.

When in doubt about an upgrade, go with agility. More Agility will never let you down.

I advise getting the addon ratings buster as it will calculate the actual gains from your various stats. ie: it will give you a summary of hit/crit/ap/ignore/haste from all the stats on an item, and let you compare two different items.

I also recommend downloading cheeky's hunter spreadsheet, (go to tkasomething) it will allow you to compare gear for potential dps.

Thanks for the reply.

I actually have Cheeky's spreadsheet which I update regularly as i get gear or re-gem. It says I will gain roughly 20DPS on just the pants alone. The bow will definitely be pretty good DPS wise, but it is still below the 1000-1200 range.

My goal is actually around ~1200 for all around goodness and about 71-7500 Mana if at all possible.

1: try the 3:2 macro, i found it easy to keep up for 10 minute fights as long as i swallow pots.
2: If it is not a: for meta requirements or b: to get better stats through the socketbonus. Gem agility/hit.
3: use your cooldowns, always.
Thats not just trinkets and BW but also potions, if you arent running out of mana (because of having a ret pally/Spriest) use haste potions.

I had questions similar to the OPs and I would like to use cheeky's spreadsheet but when i DL it and try to open the file I get an error message saying the document is password protected or encrypted. Anyone know how to resolve this?

Your gear is pretty solid for Kara (probably good enough for most of SSC/TK).
The the thing I'd really change is the 3mp5 gem in your head slot. That is just a waste of DPS.
Your ranged weapon is quite nice for a BM specced hunter. Get the badge crossbow next, but till then don't worry your ranged weapon is really good, it won't harm your damage output.

As for DPS numbers. Beware of what others say about their DPS. It is really hard to compare those numbers.
Some exaggerate a little (you know the e-peen thingy).
Others have a stacked group (such as agi-totem, heroism, feral druid and two pallies in a 10man raid) while others raid with a lot less support.
Some mean with their DPS Boss-fights only, others look at their SWStats and tell about their DPS over the whole fight time in an instance.

Some examples about my DPS values:
In Kara my SwStats shows my DPS at ~900-1000. That is rather lousy for my equip but we run Kara very overgeared. I often have no group support, run without many buffs (I do not pot in Kara if I cannot help it). Trash dies so fast, you cannot even start a real shot rotation :-) And of course I'm threat capped most of the time.
On Bosses I do ~1k-1.4k dps depending on group support and armor of the boss.
In a 25man my dps ranges from 1k to 1.6k during boss (again depending on boss armor, group support, time you have to run around avoiding damage) fights and hovers at ~1k-1.1k during the whole instance. Since we usually raid with only one or two hunters we do not get much group support and thus are stuck with "low" dps numbers (as our locks, mages, warriors and rogues get all the love).
As you can see those numbers do not really say very much. You'd need a lot more information to really compare the damage output of two hunters then just plain DPS numbers (although it is a nice e-peen thing to claim absurdly high DPS numbers).

As long as you do good in your raid, you are obviously doing fine. You still should try to improve where you can, as this is a lot of fun for us DDs, but you do not need to feel bad when you cannot reach the numbers others claim.

Ah yeah, i forgot to mention that.
Group synergy is a MASSIVE part of your dps.
The ultimate raid for a hunter, you'll be grouped with BMx2, SV, Feral druid, Resto shaman.
And with a retribution paladin in the raid for JoWisdom.

That alone gives you close to 200Mp5, 7% crit, 77AP, 172 petAP (strength totem), 2x Ferocious Insp. and 1x ~200-300 AP from Expose Weakness.
And that is such an insane difference vs a sh*tty leftover group with no synergy that it really is the difference between doing 1k dps in SSC or doing ~1.3-1.4k.

edit: When looking at the very top-end of raiding, there are guilds that even switch shamans throughout the fight to give hunters an additional Heroism/Bloodlust...

Its no wonder that those guys get close to 3k dps on brutallus :P
(even as SV! because of the insane mana regen you can use haste pots and are virtually always under the effect of some serious haste)

Yep, thats exactly our desired setup for Brutallus. I hope we can get some tries on him on Sunday. I'll report on that :-)

~200 AP for expose weakness. Man this SV hunter would suck :-)
A better guess would be ~250-325 AP (fully raid buffed my expose weakness does 308 AP currently and I still have to get some crimson spinels).

We do this already, but since we raid with only 1 or 2 hunters heroism usually is given to our caster or melee dps group. Their dps gets insane on some encounters (image 4x heroism in a 4min fight *giggles*).

I've seen no log of a SV hunter with more than 2.3k dps and the highest BM hunter I have seen had ~2.5k dps. Still very impressive.
I have played with cheeky's a but to prepare for our Brutallus wipe fest. Without heroism and haste pots (which I'll have on that fight) the spreadsheet predicts 1.8k dps for me with my current gear (if I do not **** up the shot rotation). Lets see how good I am at button mashing. I really do look forward for this fight. I even will respec to 0/20/41 for this fight (4 rapid fires thanks to readiness. That should be a lot better than improved hawk).

I'll have to search it up, but there were a few SV hunters that got to 2.7-2,8k dps.
BM hunter record is over 2.9k on that fight.

Think it was on EJ and had things to do with SV using the 3:2 macro.
(wich with that much hastes is like being a BM hunter only with much more crit and AP)

Just wondering why a resto shammy is prefered over an enhance shammy with grace of air? They both drop their mana totems, but resto drops wrath of air, enhance grouped with druids/hunters drops grace of air.

Resto in hunter group drops GoA.
And resto is preffered (imo) because you also want/have an enh. shaman in the melee group and an elem shaman in the castergroup.
If the shaman in the huntergroup is another spec you'd come up short on healers :P
