What would ya'll experts say the minimum stats for a elemental shaman would be to begin raiding kara? I've been enhancement, but I'm switching due to us having frankly way to many melee in our group. Please advise...thank you =D

24% spell crit and about 700 - 800 spell damage. Not sure on + hit though.

Uh... pfft... wow. I haven't been Elemental in a while. I think I had between 600-800 +spell damage when I started raiding Kara. You want to try to have at least 7k HP when you start raiding; 8k is better, 6k is the absolute bare minimum. 20-25% spell crit should be very easily manageable considering you can get 10% with talents alone (even that seems a little low to me though). I could give you more concrete estimates of what my stats actually looked like if I could look at my gear, but I'm at work right now. I'll try to get back on here when I get home later if someone else hasn't helped you out already.

In general, though, the better things to pay attention to (other than just your spell damage) is more of the gear you have on, and not necessarily the stats. Especially stam and int, both of those come plentifully and naturally.

Check all of the rep vendors around Outland. If they have a blue piece with +spell damage and +spell crit that's better than anything you have, buy it. Doesn't matter if it's mail or not; armor only matters in PvP for ranged DPS. (That being said, give priority to mail and get it if you can.) The Lower City QM has an epic one-handed casting mace as well if you get exhalted with them, that would be very nice to have.

Once you've made rounds at the rep vendors, check out instance drops with the same two stats on them, and if the drop rates aren't too bad, ***** the instance until you get the drops.

After that, patch up any gear slots you're having a hard time filling with S1/honor pieces and you should be in fairly good shape.

Of course, alternately you could just spend a couple weeks in BG's and fill all of your gear out with S1/honor pieces, but I don't particularly recommend it.

You've got enough hit from talents and totem to start Kara
600-700 +dmg
30% crit with talents/totem
That's if you really want to pull your weight. You could be on the low end of that (+600mg, 25% crit) if the rest of your group overgears it.

Once you get into ZA/T5-level stuff, you're going to want 35% crit or more, 800-900 +dmg, and an extra 4% to hit from gear. Maybe a little haste from badges stuff as well, but don't focus on that until you've got access to a number of pieces.

Quick question...when you say 800-900 spell damage are you talking how much you actually hit for each cast ? or the drop down "bonus damage" spell stat on the character screen?

The drop down "bonus damage" spell state on the character screen. Your actual spells will only draw a % of that total number and add the damage on top of the base damage of the cast.

Yeah, elemental shamans are like fury warriors in pre-Kara gear. It has to be a little better than other classes since there are so few upgrades for you in Kara itself.

Other than a new weapon from the final boss in Kara and random ring, necklaces, cloaks, and trinkets, there is 1 piece of mail caster DPR gear in Kara. So unless you put on a lot of cloth/leather, you're gonna leave Kara with much of the same gear you started with.

On a related note, what kind of stats do I need for heroics...also, I've got about 27% crit and 500-600(can't remember) spelldamage, I pull ~650 DPS, higher if I get LO procs and crits, my best ever was 890 DPS on a malicious instructor - Is this what I should be doing in this gear?

If you're ToW spcced, hit needs to be at about 54, if not ToW specced, then you need at least 100.

You dont need that much stats to do Kara.

My 1st trip there, I had only +400SP. It slows down the Kara run coz you dont output enough DPS. But that doesn't mean you can't clear the raid.
What's important is that your whole team is suitably geared. If all the rest are overgeared, they can easily carry a 10th member along for a gearing run.
I think as a rough guide, you should be wearing 70 blues (with minor items green, e.g. trinklets).

I now have 800++ SP, I dare say I'm over geared for Kara already, to the extent that if the tank is not up to par, I had to watch my threat carefully.
Had joined a few PUG kara badge runs where we blasted through everything (Maiden in abt 1.5min), and even 9man-ed Aran and Prince.
