Ok, I know that we have been tagged "huntard" for a long time now, but until now I never thought of that word for another hunter until today. I was in AH in Stormwinds and saw a lvl 42 Dwarf hunter girl while I was checking for mana pots. This is not anything strange but her armor and gear is what made me go WTF? So I did a quick gear inspect and my jaw hit the floor. Other than the lvl 26 Shammy leather she had she was also using a Mage staff! Her stats were in the basement other that her intellect and spirit plus she had a nice +30 frost damage going on. I dropped her a quick PM and asked what did she use, gun or bow? Her reply, I don't I use this cool staff I got in a drop. Also I may note she was spec'ing Beast Master! So Humm, what pet you use? Had a cat back around lvl 12 but it died so I never got another one. Well now, ok you have a nice day and have fun! Ok people, it is not April fools day and I did not see the hidden cam! So I only have one word to say, HUNTARD!!!

Intellect is good for hunters. Wearing leather past 40 is not uncommon, as some people would rather not spend money on gear. BM is the best leveling spec, the best raid spec for DPS and the easiest spec for arena (though MM is better if you can play it).

I think there was a level range (fairly early on) where a certain 2h staff was actually a decent hunter weapon, can't remember the specs. It wasn't a mage staff though. It was enough to learn the skill but I recall I didn't keep it long. Was pretty huntard back then myself so there may have been better weapons, I just hadn't run across them at that point.

Some shammy gear is actually pretty good at certain points for a hunter. Depends on the gear.

The lack of a pet for a BM hunter is beyond stupid though. So, sounds like someone you could point here to Alla and get them squared away.

I would never stop being a hunter just because of how someone else plays theirs. I'm just not a person who cares what others think of how I play, and my pathetic armor, spec and talent choices completely agree with that. Perhaps I'm still a huntard too... ^_^

Nope, didn't recall seeing that one but that would be decent for early 30's with a +40AP on it. I don't know of anything else that soon with that big of an AP boost. Looks like it hits pretty hard too.

Anyway, point was that there are a couple of staffs out there that aren't so bad for a levelling hunter to be using. Once you get to polearms though it's a bit more intense for the 2h selection.

I don't think the issue was that she had leather on. I think it was that she had lvl26 leather at level 42.

I certainly dont have a problem with leather. I just spent a few hundred gold on a belt and several badges on boots.

It's not a problem whether or not the person is stupid- he just didn't have any direction, and perhaps is more interested in just playing than reading forums for help. I mean, if he doesn't know that he's doing anything wrong, then he probably shouldn't be expected to seek out a way to fix it.

Any class the wears anything higher than cloth has the challenge of figuring out what stats work well for them. Cloth classes don't really have a whole lot to choose from, and the most they can really mess up is a Warlock wearing Spirit gear.

Hunters have mail that are geared for physical DPS, Spell damage, and Healing. We can wear leather, which have identical options.

I can totally see why some new players would think that intellect and spell damage would help them. Not entirely sure about the frost damage thing, but all of the problems that this person had are common things.

Instead of asking that person questions, and just saying "have a nice day" why didn't you try to steer him in the right direction? Even if it's as simple as suggesting that the official WoW website has some tips on how to play hunters. As bad as that page is (it actually suggests strength..."when agility isn't available"), it might at least show them the error of their way in using frost damage.

Just pretend you never saw her. (FEMALE DWARF HUNTER?! EWW...)

Or maybe she's still learning... but then again, I don't know how she got to level 42 without a pet. >_> 70, much less 60, is going to be a disaster for that girl. >_>

Ew.

All ppl can reach every lvl they want..even with no gear, even without doing any quests..you can killing mobs and lvl up.Sure, you wont get lvl 70 in 1 moth but some time you will.
Anyway my point is that player is not a huntard.Probably a little kid or some1 that he dont know nothing about the game.It is a hard game dont forget that.

If they're having fun where is the problem?

It's when they bring it to instances that it starts to get unfunny.

We should allways check the other(gear) before we invite him in our group..But is a different thing some1 that dont know the game and someone who is huntard.
A new player dont know anything , a huntard believe that he knows everything!
A new player believe that strenght is good cause it make you stronger. ahuntard believe that strenght will make his pet super power!

That wasnt the issue either. I had lvl 30-40 leather and mail on when I stepped into outland. The issue was the person had +frost damage on their gear and they didn't have a pet because it died when she was level 12.

On a side note to the OP... the ENTER button is your friend, use it often. That wall of text crit my eyes from trying to go from each line. =S

Exactly, don't be apart of the problem be apart of the solution. Some people really don't understand. =( slow maybe? who knows but it is the responsability of the person who discovers this to correct it or you are helping the view of hunters being huntards.

Ok, yes I should of tried to offer help to her and point her to here or another site. But that day I was home on medical leave and head was killing me, I logon play a bit, head would start up again so I would log off. When I saw her and started to chat was one of those "crap why am I on here" times so I was short and said crap on it and logged. I am sure I will see her again and if I do I will see what the full story is and offer help if I can. If you are in pain and the meds are low, you are a pain in the ***, Well so my wife said anyway :-)

I wouldn't worry too much about it.

It's not instinctive to send people for help. Instinct these days is usually more observational in nature: ie- slap forehead, laugh, mock mightily, shake your head and move on, etc.

If I run across players that need help, I tend to send them here to Alla, but generally only if they interact with me. I don't usually inspect someone and say "Psssst: go to www..." as that's kinda rude. Like some, they may just be in town jerking peoples chains with fun gear. Seeing a toon in low level mage attire, mousing over them and reading 'Hunter' would probably cause me to laugh.

If they look like they want help, give them help. If they look like they are having fun, you have fun "Hey man... nice dress." If they are minding their own business, mind your own- go "Doh!" and move on.

I would say that person is a Huntard but it really doesn't matter. Everyone can play the solo game as they see fit to get the max enjoyment out of it for them. It's in groups where the term Huntard really comes to mind. I see very few hunters that know how to group properly. They RARELY make my friends list. I don't think it's that the class has more morons than other classes it's just a lot more apparent when fluffy is attacking the wrong target or attacking a caster that was supposed to be pulled back by the tank and is now sitting in a pat zone. Hunters have some instants. You notice them when your tanking and think fracking huntard when your pulling and they already have aggro. Harder to notice some of the other classes ******** up. Tards are just more obvious.

I used a staff once, it had lots of agility, it was akward.

Well, considering a hunter is the easiest class to solo up to 70, a lot of r-tards will roll the class. Other classes that hit rough spots in the leveling may cause people to give up on them. I always found a BM hunter ridiculously easy to level. Warlocks come close, but they require a tad more skill to play.

Honestly, how smart do you have to be to send in pet, start auto attack, go make a sandwich. Come back, dead mob. Even the stupidest people in the world could level up a hunter, pet attack and arcane shot/autoshot.
